that's like saying the Houston Astros can make consecutive postseasons; it ain't gonna happen.

Etling looked good vs last-in-the SEC Mizzou. That record game was a carbon copy of the SCAR game last year (82 plays vs 83 plays, 634 yds vs 624 yds).

He looked good in the 3rd Qtr vs 82nd Roster Southern Miss 45-10, but so did Frank Wilson with his 94th Roster UTSA who at 3-3 beat Southern Miss the week before 55-32.

Are we comparing JVS, Mizzou, and UTSA to ranked OM, ALA, ARK, FLA, and TAMU?

Get Real.

Our DTQBs and O-Line have not been challenged since WISC/AUB and we are lucky to be ranked. The next 5 games are vs ranked SEC teams.

JT is a senior next year. Harris isn't transferring to Ohio State to sit behind Barrett, Dwayne Haskins and Joe Burrow which is what would happen.

Harris has never red shirted. I think he can burn it next year. He could burn next year here. He's got options.

cherry-picking to only count games against much weaker competition.

Once we played better teams, our offense (and Harris) looked terrible.

Now, I realize the same applies this year (except perhaps Wisconsin). The first half of our schedule has been weak teams.

Our "real" season starts this Saturday. Then we'll know what kind of team we really have.

H was 7-0 last yr never trailing in a game and set scoring records as a FR running a spread option O w/63 pts on 9 drives - 100% Scoring Efficiency. At WISC he was back under center, like AUB 2014, behind an injured O-Line, was Sacked 3 times and hurried 8 times and made the Scapegoat as was Dupre who was mauled by double and triple coverage out of 2 WR sets.

At 7-0, Harris had averaged 68% vs SCAR, MSST, AU, FLA, leading up to the ALA game. He faced a lot of 3rd and longs and QBHs but 0 INTs. ALA/ARK: 18 of his 25 pass attempts were 3rd and 8+ yds and he was pressured/hit on 50% of his dropbacks and sacked 10 times. ALA: He was injured on the 1st 40 yd TD to Dural.

In the 7-0 run up to ALA, ARK, and OM, Harris faced long 3rd downs averaging 8+ yds, converting 44%. That is a tall order for Joe Montana to quote McFarland.

It got worse in the ALA and ARK games as he faced 17 of 25 3rd downs of 8+ yds, converting 3 of the 17 for 18% while he converted 75% or 6 of 8 of the 3rd downs of 5 yds or less. Behind a run-oriented run-blocking OL that failed all year at the much more difficult task of pass protection, Harris was sacked/hit 8 times vs ALA, injuring his shoulder, knee, and groin, and 5 times vs ARK, and constantly threw under pressure to well-covered receivers.

Short passes over the middle have never been Cameron's forte. Plus in 3rd and long and without tempo/HUNH, motion, crossing patterns, rubs and a variety of sets in spread 3+WR sets, there are not going to be a lot of mismatches and the middle is not going to be open.

Ha ha. If you cant see that Harris struggled wth short and intermediate throws i dont know what to tell you.
quote:

Most accurate QB under pressure: Brandon Harris, LSU

He didn’t have the highest completion percentage on throws under pressure, but Harris suffered from his receivers dropping seven passes. Under pressure, now returning SEC quarterback had a higher adjusted completion percentage than Harris’ 67.2 percent.

Runner-up: Chad Kelly, Ole Miss

Thats RETURNING qbs. Please enlighten us on all the RETURNING QBS that were in the sec this year.its should be telling that Dobbs and Harris were preseason all sec.
Harris had a good deep ball and thats it. His footwork in the pocket was atrocious. His pocket awareness was atrocious. How many time did you see Harris take his drop and once his plant foot planted on his 3/5/7 step drop, fire the ball out?

9 of his 22 games saw a completion % below 55 %.

Also, the air coryell does want to take advantage of short throws once the deep routes run off short coverage. While the system didnt play to Harris ' strengths, he wasnt accurate on throws that werent meant to get him in rythym.

Etling's pocket presence has looked better than any qb we have had since Flynn. He steps up in the pocket instead of moving into the de's rush path. Anytime you saw Jennings or Harris drop back you knew they werent gonna deliver the ball on time. They refused to throw open wrs and never threw the ball unless a wr was wide open or they just had to get rid of the ball.

If you cant see the difference between harris' play and Etling's play then thats on you.
I do love how you act like Etling's game against inferior teams mean nothing. Did you watch Harris against Eastern Michigan, syracuse, and Jacksonville state? No Etling doesnt have the physical gifts of Harris but if Harris cant translate those gifts to the field, then they are meaningless.

Get real.

You can't put that Wisc loss on him. You've got to put that on Cam Cameron.

The play that ended lsu's chance at kicking a fg is squarely on Harris. Cam didnt make him throw the ball directly to the defense.

Did Miles already maximize Harris' potential to be a sub-mediocre quarterback?

LOL...the kid is not near athletic enough to play wide receiver. Add in the fact that he has hands of stone, by his own admission, and this is virtually impossible.

That's one way of looking at it. Another way is that you remove that decision from him entirely considering you're already within field goal range and another 3-5 yards gained on a running play set you up nicely for a game-winning kick as time expires.

We may need Harris to step up at some point this or next season. He is just an injury to Etling away from taking the reigns again and leading this team. Hope he is staying in shape and sharp cause his chance will come no doubt.

I think we will see big things from him next time around. He seems to have the right attitude and accepted his role as a team player.

that's all fluff.

Has he learned how to throw an accurate short ball?

Has he learned how to read defenses?

Has he learned how to go through his progressions?

If not, he's not going to be of much help to us.

We were right at the edge of the Fg line and have you seen our fg kicking this year? If we dont try to get closer and we miss the kick then yoid be blasting the staff for playing it too close to the vest.

He threw the int on 1st down with 57 seconds left. We were at the Wisky 35. By no means a sure thing kick.

agreed. We were technically in field goal range, but just barely and it would be a very long kick. Even if we run and gain 5 more yards, it's still a 45+ yarder - definitely not automatic.

I liked the call to try to throw and get 15 more yards. Every yard closer is better odds on the kick.

Harris just made a horrible decision.

Back to the original topics. SMDH

JTB (current Ohio state QB). Struggles with accuracy issue and runs the football well. Brandon, if given the green light, is a very effective runner. It's a fit.

This has nothing to do with Etling or LSU. The kid fits their system.
