Yeah
There's no question... no one on here wants Watkins up in a crucial situation. UCIrvine was the exception to the rule for him.
In a crucial situation, I want Nola or Mahtook up.

Exactly so why not let jones swing away? I want him at the plate with it one the line instead of watkins.

then there's 0 point in bunting jones

Yeah, the more I think about it, yall have convinced me ... we should have definitely let Jones hit.
I still don't think the bunt was a terrible/idiotic call like some have hinted at, but it was just a safe/conservative call and we would should have not taken the bat out of Jones' hands.
All that said, if coach calls for the bunt, Jones still has to get the thing down in that situation (regardless of whether it was the best call). Not getting a simple bunt down might have cost us a tie game.

I have an excellent idea. Since many of you are questioning the coaching decisions, then why don't you apply for the head coach's job since ya'll seem to know what should have been done.
Man, I hate this argument. I haven't seen anyone claim to be a better coach than CPM, but when he makes a bonehead decision, it's not a crime to call him on it. Hell, give me his salary and I'd be happy to have someone follow me around at work and point out every stupid mistake I make.

this is nothing new with PM, though... oftentimes he is over-agressive in situations that call for being conservative and other times he is too conservative in situations that call for being a little more agressive. A lot of the time, it has worked out for him ... but not this time.
the bunt was a safe/conservative call, and for the reasons everyone has pointed out, was probably the wrong decision looking back.
oh well, onto tomorrow.

This is the problem. Of course looking back it was the wrong call, but in that situation it's the right call. JJ gets the bunt down and this is our situation
Runner on 3rd, 1 out (meaning a WP, PB, base hit, sac bunt/fly, or even a grounder to the right side ties the game) and the top of the lineup batting. Hindsight is 20/20 right?

Yea sounds all good excepth the fact it was someone bunting that can't bunt and the leadoff guy that sounds so good is not consistent and you never know if he will swing the bat or not

Ott and Nola blew the game. Nola had 2 very costly errors

Ok I'll give you that JJ isn't the best bunter, but the fact that Trey cannot make contact is not on CPM. I think he made the right call there, it just didn't shake out, apparently JJ CAN bunt (I'm sure he's fine in practice) or else CPM would have either PH for him or told him to swing

I think we should have let Jones hit away...the dude has tried to bunt before and it was another fail! But it is ok, if we take the next two we are right back to where we were
Posted on 3/18/11 at 10:15 pm to Tigerfan7218
they have bunted well till tonight. 2 games left, can still win the series.

I agree with you on the call if anyone else was at the plate or on deck. Just didn't like the scenario. Watkins has got to go up there trying to hit the ball not looking for a walk. Another reason I didn't like it was the momentum. We had 10,000 people going crazy and a pitcher that was ready to lose it and then in one instant we gave him confidence and sit down the 10,000 fans and shut them up

No one said anything about they like as in our team. Our team is much improved in bunting. We are saying jones in particular. Not a bash at jones just saying all year he has had trouble bunting( by the way is about the only thing he's had trouble with.)
Posted on 3/18/11 at 10:21 pm to tigerbait01
I guess I can see that, but I instantly said when Jones came up, "Gotta bunt here, get the runner to 3rd." Jones just botched the execution again
Posted on 3/18/11 at 10:24 pm to Tigerfan7218
Yea I am all for bunting and moving runners. I like that we are starting to play textbook baseball that was just one time I didn't want to see it happen because of who was on deck and with the momentum swing. Oh well, gotta go win one tomorrow
