Just would rather be wrong like with Flynn than charging ahead like so many LSU fans everytime a former Tiger makes a play in the preseason and proclaiming him a roster/pro bowl/ HOF lock just because I loved them and they were studs in college.
I'm curious, do you mind if I ask why?

Yeah the NFL is all about how you do in the first preseason game

Starters played one series

Not at all, King. I always like our little "discussions"

I guess it's just a matter of numbers in my eyes. The simple fact is, it's really damn hard to make the leap from college to NFL, especially QB. The vast majority of players don't, even many that were very good in college.

I guess I'd rather just be pleasantly surprised when one is fortunate enough to end up in the right situation, and then perform well enough initially and also continue to improve enough to warrant making a 53 man roster of the absolute best of the best.

To be honest though, it does depend on the player as well. I honestly thought JR would be a great one. I saw the amazing things he did on the field, as well as some of the warning signs that concerned many, but thought he would overcome those things to be a great one, and wasn't shy about saying so. Obviously, I was wrong (AGAIN )

If I thought Lee had all the physical tools and mental ability required to be a reliable NFL QB, I'd say so. But honestly, as much as I defended him his entire career here, and respect what he was able to do for us when called upon, I just don't believe that his strengths as a QB outweigh his weaknesses at the NFL level.

Does that mean he won't make the roster? Not at all. Like I said, he's in a great spot with a real opportunity. But I watched that game, and just seem to have a different impression of what I saw than some others who maybe aren't as objective when it comes to analyzing this particular player's play on the field.

Like I said, I guess I'd just rather be pleasantly surprised rather than getting my hopes up and setting the bar too high.

Maybe because the Flynn NFL experience has been so much better than the JR one

lol. Agreed. Which is why my post indicated that he would have to continue to improve throughout the preseason just to make a practice squad. Though to Lee's credit he has only had a portion of one game to show what he can do. And in that opportunity he performed better than many people thought he would. In the end I am just pulling for a former Tiger to do well at the next level. I do the same for any and all former Tigers.

Did you catch Jacob Hester with the lead block on the TD?

And Jarrett Lee doing his trademark shoulder pad shuffle?

Tiger Voodoo, since when were you appointed QB coach of the NFL. Are you trying to make some of these posters think you know how to read progressions on a pro D. If he threw to the 1st option ,maybe the 1st option was open. Why go to the second or third ?

Haha it's not something I'd bet money on. Too many variables between now and Setember, mainly Whitehurst's play. I already said Lee's in as good a situation as a rookie QB can expect.

But I started posting in this thread as a response to the guy who said the SD coaches wouldn't have given Lee all those snaps if they weren't going to keep him.

I 100% disagree with that. And I'd bet my avatar that he will not get half as many snaps next week as he did this week.

You game?

Well no joke, it is preason game 2 so Rivers is going to get a few more snaps against the defense and Jesus may play but Lee is gonna be #3 on team that Turner and groom

Probably not. They have to give that guy Rivers a long look to see if he can back Lee up.
