Because most people that actually watched him play are dead. He was basically one of the first GOATs of the NBA. His number is retired and there’s a statue of him. He’s in the basketball hall of fame. I think he’s pretty well revered

I’m 77&7/12 yo. I saw him on one of our 3 channels several times. Especially playing Russell/ Cousy in the playoffs. He would have scored more, but he played with Cliff Hagen, a big star from Kentucky, who used to shoot a lot. This led to Pettit’s rebounds. Lol
Got downvoted. lol musta hurt a UK fans feelings.

He was brought onto the court at an LSU Mens game this past season.

Great player during his college and pro days…and from I’ve been told a really nice man
However the youth of today only know him as a street in tigerland… which is a real dump….

One statistic that is overlooked, when he retired from the NBA he was the all-time leading scorer! And another fact, if I recall, he was the only player ever to receive MVP of the Finals, even though he was on the losing team!

So you’re saying Tim Duncan wouldn’t be good today? If you watched Duncan and appreciated him, you saw Bob. Bob may have had more range when he got going about 3 years in. You’re also saying putting a round ball in a cylinder that is 10’ today is different than then? You are wrong.

When his Hawks played at the Celtics his mom would come stay with my parents. I’ve visited with him several times and he has fond memories of that. Too 50 NBA player of all time speaks for itself. If he had a better supporting cast like Cousy and Russell did , he would have many nba championships. The consummate southern gentleman.!

Back in those days you didn't go out of your way to say "look at me". Ain't I something. He played the game to his best ability. Now a days the main guys are out there pouting to look at me. I am something else. Nobody can touch what I am doing. One reason I haven't watched a NBA game since Michael Jordan was playing.

A lot of our "fans" don't know much about the LSU athletes of the past. They're more concerned about their WiFi connection than they are about the actual games they are attending.
One Friday afternoon on campus some years back, I saw Tommy Casanove sitting on a bench outside the Union, talking to an older gentleman. I knew Tommy, so I went over to speak with him. He introduced me to the other man....Gaynell Tinsley.
I told a friend of mine about it later. He was a self-professed "huge" LSU fan, but he wasn't exactly sure who Tommy was, and he'd never heard of Gaynell Tinsley. Or Jimmy Taylor. Or Johnny Robinson. We have a lot of fans like that.
