I'm pretty sure Mann is not engaged in fundraising in his article.

I must admit, some of these comments are aggressively ignorant.

Who can deny that the academic side is underfunded and underperforms?
Who can deny that the athletic side, particularly football, is well funded and one of the highest compensated in the country?
Are there actually folks here who think this is a good thing?

So vote for the right people to fix the underfunded part. Oh wait...scratch that. In 4 years, vote for the right people to fix the underfunded part.

Is the new Democratic gov an enemy of LSU?

Because the current Republican governor sure as hell was.

I seriously thought BJ's first order of business when he became governor was to call a constitutional convention to fix our budgeting issues. Boy, was I ever wrong!

This partisan crap is incredibly stupid and counterproductive, especially at the state level.
Here you have folks who castigate the governor as an enemy of LSU / the State before he is even sworn in.
Truth is that these same partisans were telling us how critical it was to elect Jindal over the last eight years, despite his proving that he was an enemy of LSU and the State.
Let's just fix it and sort out the party crap later.

Uh, he wants to expand Medicaid and raise taxes in a state which has an economy reeling from depressed commodities and is subject to headwinds in the industrial economy.

I'd say he's an enemy of Louisiana, and by extension, LSU. Whether you realize it or not.

Raising taxes was going to be necessary, whether you know it or not and regardless of the party of the governor.
The no tax "wisdom" of Gov. Jindal put the state in a huge bind. The headwinds of low commodity prices is only the latest excuse for adherence to Norquist nonsense.
Move to Kansas and join the destruction of that state if you don't like La.'s reaction to Jindal.

The economic malaise LA faces is not some after-thought you can just glaze over or dismiss. We have some very tough times ahead. The effects of a substantial tax raise on business or individuals can be far more damaging to your objective than you appreciate, particularly in the long run.

False.

The way the budget is set up requires whoever is governor to be the "enemy" of LSU.

Until a governor has the balls to close down several of the "too many" four year schools we have, this will always be the case.

I would suspect our new progressive governor will not even want to touch that, especially when you consider the drain SUNO and Grambling are to our systems.

In fact, I bet the situation gets worse under a progressive governor, because his solution will most likely be to throw more money at those failing, corrupt institutions.

Bob Mann could learn something from this quote. An old friend of mine "likes" his comments on FB regularly and it's always bashing Republicans or defending the incompetence of his role and the whole Blanco administration. I see a liberal hack hiding behind the pillars of academia with his position at LSU. I too wonder how ole Bob would do if he had to get a real job, instead he gets to spew his partisan views to our children and on FB etc. while on our payroll.

I think you hit the nail on the head with this one.

Just as a matter of curiosity:
We just had 8 yrs of a governor who was very conservative Republican.
Why didn't he use his majority in the legislature to terminate all the underperforming colleges, like SUSBO?

He didn't have the balls. He got close to shutting SUNO down and the left wing started screaming racism.

Your explanation was fine til you got to the racism part.
This administration NEVER listened to anybody, much less his political enemies.

Well you must have not been paying attention AT ALL during that whole fiasco. It feels like it was only a few years ago but I think it was around 11/12. Anyway, I'm not a Piyush fan so please don't take this as though I'm defending him. But to say why didn't he shut down SUNO is like asking why LSU didn't try to make a move on Miles at the end of the season.

I remember when KBB was elected and folks thought she was going to sacrifice LSU for ULL.

Seriously, go find another school you didn't attend to worry about.

Those of us who attended other schools don't by default lose the right to have a voice about LSU. We still get a voice when our tax $$ are required to run the university. People like you would freak if our tax $$ were no longer available to fund the university. Then we would see how important all those who didn't attend would suddenly become.
