From KT to Key, I think the unfortunately disappointing draft results for these and other of our talented non-senior tigers may send a signal to not just pull the trigger on jumping to the draft for some of our younger tigers in the future.

I hope and suspect (pray? lol) we see an uptick in juniors staying for a senior year.

Key took a leave of absence, showed up out of shape, didn't play up to his potential, missed the bowl game and was an early 3rd round pick who left early his junior year. Not sure that's a hard life lesson

I think coaches are going to point this draft out. These young players couldve had so much more. Gotta be kind of embarassed now that some didnt even get drafted

Exactly. Joe Alleva has morphed LSU football into more of a business than a university. LSU has hardly any feel of the pure thing it once was. Not saying it’s not happening all over cfb, but it seems extra prevalent at LSU. How do you expect student athletes to want to stay and graduate when your university promotes itself as #NFLSU all over offficial social media? Their NFLSU campaign, which is a way to divert the focus off of their poor on field results, has created this. Pair that with poor leadership and coaching and it’s not hard to see why players are anxious to leave.

That's a two-edged sword for any coaching staff.

The coaches won’t do anything about it. If they changed their mantra of NFLSU now, it most assuredly admits they can’t control their roster.

Regardless of the kids they recruit, the coaching staff and football admin have got to do a better job of advising these kids who want to leave early. Ed O was saying KT would probably leave even before the season ended. For a player that clearly needed another year, I don’t understand why you even put that out there. Fueled the fire long before an actual life decision had to be made.

you should say the culture in college athletics. football is not as bad as basketball but kids get agents and have "hangers-on" that influence them.

the second they don't get drafted their entourage disappears and find another guy. it's sad that young people don't take advice from the right people but that has been going on for many generations. listening to the right people is not a trait of many young adults and never has been. not just lsu and not just football players.

you did take the opportunity to bash LSU over this though. no surprise.

Go take a look at who leads the nation in early departures over recent years. If you don’t believe LSU has more of a culture if this than other universities, maybe that will change your mind. Not surprising you blind homers can’t see it though. Everything is clearly just fine and dandy at LSU. Just like other universities we are!!

Would have upvoted your post if not of this. Unnecessary to trash another poster on your way out, just like it is unnecessary for the other poster to trash LSU. Just like it’s unnecessary for me to trash you here. Downvote my post to prove I’m right.

You’d hope but Dupre got drafted in the 7th last year and I’m pretty sure spencer ware went completely undrafted when he left.

It doesn’t seem to matter to LSU players cuz they are recruited under the impression that they will only be on campus for 3 years.

A lot of these players think just because they came out of HS rated 5 stars they should not stay in college for 4 years. KT was mostly a liability in college , I was shocked when he declared. Also just because you has one good year does not mean you have to leave early. In hind sight almost all LSU juniors should have stayed.

There was buzz about him being a top 10 pick by many before he started stalling. If he sits and thinks about the money he could have gotten for applying himself a little- it should be a lesson.

Instead of highlighting the negatives a beter approach would be to feature how Tradaveous White benefitted by a Senior year and how well he played as a rookie.

The problem is thes players who have successful junior years feel they are judged by theiir peers on whether they declare for the NFL after three years. With an opportunity to rovie for their families it is hard to persuade them to stay. For most it works out reasonably well. The ones who don't get drafted or drop precipitously is usually the result of pesonal issues.

Serious question. I seem to read this every year about the amount of Jr's leaving, but when will it be accepted as the norm?

A lot end up finding success if they get a chance.

What’s sad is, by leaving they are saying, the risk is greater than staying. “No matter what, I’m done playing at LSU.”

Each has a reason for moving on & I can accept all except when the reason is a fast talking BS agent that takes advantage of a youngster when he tells him what he wants to hear. TW is a prime example. Wish him luck.

So how do you change the culture? Recruiting less talented players is one, but I'm pretty sure none of us want that. What are the options?
