I also remember pregame one announcer tried to give ND props and the other guy wasnt having it and said something to the effect of “are you kidding me? This is going to be a track meet with LSU way out in front”. I think it was Mayday now that I think about it

LSU was going to the Rose bowl assuming USC was going the BCS championship game. On championship game weekend, USC lost to a big underdog UCLA and therefore got bumped down to the rose bowl which in turn knocked LSU down to the Sugar. A lot of people here give WAFB shite for reporting in advance the LSU was going to the rose bowl. At the time they were accurate. NO ONE thought UCLA would beat USC and the Rose bowl had already told LSU they would be selected pending USC's fate.

fricken Auburn and the refs/I believe it was 5 turnovers versus Florida. If there would have been a playoff then I truly think LSU would have won it.

I thought we were going to play in the Rose Bowl because Florida was going to the Sugar Bowl as SEC champs, but when they got selected for the National Championship game we were the next SEC team up for the Sugar.

Both are correct. USC’s loss opened the door for Florida to get in.

Correct. Florida got in to the championship game bc of the USC loss to UCLA. Originally it was going to be

USC - fiesta / championship game
Florida - sugar
LSU - Rose

It ended up with
Florida - Fiesta / championship
LSU - Sugar
USC - rose

Keep in mind I say LSU got 'bumped down' to the sugar Bc most LSU fans wanted to play in the rose bc it was still very rare for non big 10 or PAC 10 teams to play in the rose.

Wow! I miss the days when we were so stacked that the media respected us like that. How far we have fallen.

Michigan ... Who many pundits thought should have played in the championship over Florida. I remember one of the assholes on 'the sports reporters' that Sunday morning saying they should call in the national guard to prevent Florida from entering the stadium bc they had no business in the same stadium as Ohio State. Florida beat them so bad it really changed the perspective of the SEC.
