It made a funny sound. It did not make the ping of an aluminum bat. The announcers were saying some newer bats are made of a composite, but it looked like the umps and coaches were looking at the tape on it more than anything else.

serious question... if you are in a long slump, do you mess with things like the bat you use? Don't they have different weights, so maybe pick a bat an ounce or two lighter; sacrifice power to control your movement better? I never played organized baseball, so I don't know.

Back when I played, the rules allowed you to use a -5 bat(weight being 5 oz. less than the length in inches). So, we had bats that were -3, -4, and -5. Now, the limit is -3, I believe, so I would imagine that's what they all are. So, in order to go lighter, you'd have to go shorter, too, which could really mess up your swing.

The catcher claimed the pine tar went too far up the bat. He was wrong.
