I wonder what made these guys both take pay cuts. Did they want to be at LSU that bad? Or were they being shown the door at their other jobs?

Baker was getting demoted from DC. For Carter, the entire Jets staff was let go.

Baker had a ceiling at Miami bc he was giving up play calling duties. I doubt they cut his pay but he had no upward trajectory. If he puts out a good product at LSU, his ceiling is much higher.

Carter was likely looking for a better environment. The Jets are a bit of a mess. He can do great things at LSU, which will make his stock skyrocket.

I'm sure both contracts have incentives, too.

I think we did a good job with all of the hires and associated contracts. O will be surrounded by a young, hungry staff - just let them do their thing. The analysts (some with a good bit of experience) in place will also be able to guide these young guys.

. Would think an NFL DL coach makes more than 200k. Course 200k in BR vs 400k in NY goes a hell of a lot further.

The Jets still paying him too in year one...

Yep. Same thing happened when Nick hired Kiffin. He was still getting paid by USC for 2 years so his Bama deal was like 200K. Once the USC money dried up they gave him a 1.2 million dollar raise.

If any of them do good someone will try to hire them and then LSU will have to renegotiate.

Also Carter still getting paid by the jets for one more year I read. so he will make more than the 200k

I read that, too, and don't understand??? Wonder how he keeps getting paid by the Jets when he is no longer there and he is the one who chose to leave? Now that's a sweet deal, there!

So who brokered the Pelini contract?
Same guy that brokered the Jimbo contract at A&M.

10 years/7.5 million a year/All Guaranteed.

Aggie satisfied because they've beaten LSU 2 out of the last 3 years.

Baker saw the writing on the wall at miami.

They brought over travaris robinson. I wouldn't be surprised if he is made the dc.

Andre carter wasn't retained by the new head coach of the jets, robert saleh.

Both of those contracts are pretty good.

Does anyone know what randall joyner got? He was the other d-line coach they were looking at.

Why does Carter’s salary more than double but Bakers only increases 10%?

Can someone educate me on this? It just seems really odd.

I’m still also wk seeing why a DC would step down to position coach unless he believes long term it’s more beneficial.

Wasn't that bad. The Jets's Head coach was fired so everybody is gone. Carter is getting paid by both LSU and Jets for the first year here.

As for Baker, they were a top 25 defense his first year and they fell to 51 their next year. They had a couple bad games, but I think the last two were the reason for the switch. North Carolina destroyed them. I mean that game was brutal. Then they went to the bowl game and gave up 37 to Oklahoma St.

I really think Diaz is going overboard with it, but he decided to keep him at DC, and take away his play calling duties. I guess Baker said F that, and left. St least if he does good here he'll have another chance at a DC position in the next couple years.

Prove it deals. Nothing wrong with it. Helps LSU and if they do good, sign them to a big contract.

LSU went with Carter because this is who Jones wanted.
