You are wasting your time with that brainless minion. As for his bullshite, I seem to recall a stupid former LSU head coach sitting on the sideline with a thumb up his arse while his new DC played press man every play vs Leach’s Air Raid. We got boatraced by a Stanford washout who was benched two games later.

I'm legit curious which coverage we played more of during each time. Zone or man.

Thinking there are defenses in modern college football that only play man is the height of stupidity.

Playing zone is a must in todays game. You can’t have the DBs always play with their backs to the QB. RPOs and QBs will gash you if the CBs and DBs are not supporting run also. You see teams play a base zone and run man to man to mix it up with pressure.

Zone only works when you have a great pass rush. Zone gets sliced and diced anytime your pass rush doesn’t get home I absolutely hate zone coverage

The problem isn’t playing a little zone here and there. The issue is it is the main system for House and is generally a defense suited to account for limited athletic ability in your DBs. Man coverage is generally more effective when you have athletic and more instinct driven players.

House needed Zone at UK because they have significantly fewer athletic DBs compared to their opponents.

LSU’s defenses have gotten worse and more inconsistent as they have shifted these last few years to heavier zone coverage. That isn’t new.

Also, just because there was one game where it merited zone coverage (MSU in 2020) doesn’t mean your entire defense should be built around that.

You are the opposite of Nick Saban then. Zone coverages in todays game aren't what you think. They get incredibly complex and involve pattern matching more than the traditional cover an area zone from the past. Hell Saban's cover 4 has like 5 different variations now.

The same can be said for man coverage. Literally every single coverage has a weakness and if the offense knows what coverage you are in you are in trouble. That's why teams disguise coverages so much. You'll also see teams play different coverages on different sides of the field. for example Quarter Quarter Half coverage. Cover 4 to the strong side and Cover 2 to the weak side.

I hate that the corners play so far back a lot of times.

What is ND/Kelly record vs SEC?

Didn't we play "man" in our championship run in 19?

Still curious to see how we adjust defensively the rest of the season and see if we start to apply pressure and create more turnovers/stops.

LSU is currently DEAD LAST in the SEC in Defense. Not exactly a high water mark. Matt House's seat should be on fire right about now. if you are a coordinator, and your side of the ball is as inept as we've been on defense, you shouldn't stick around long.

from 2004-18 - LSU avg being 3rd in the SEC in defense
since 2018 - LSU avg being 10th in the SEC in defense

our current defensive productivity is unacceptable. the only worse year has been 2020, when we finished 13th in the league. being 14th of 14 SEC teams in defense isn't going to cut it here. we are only 2 games in, but this is not getting it done.

Why are you even bringing up 2018-2021?

Last season, LSU finished 6th in the SEC in Total Defense & 6th in Scoring Defense.

Of course. Every team runs almost ever coverage. Aranda is known for his zone blitzes though so nice try.

There’s a legitimate possibility that the guy is Ponamsky.

so let him play press man. We certainly could use some of that rather than 7-10 yd gaps where receivers can just do whatever they wish off the line. When LSU was DBU....I can still remember the good old days....they played press man defense on the corners with deep zones with the safeties. Now our safeties drop totally out of the picture on tv...and that is way off the los...opening the middle of the field wide open with receivers in stride. FSU killed us with that alignment, and so will others if we continue the same alignment on every defensive play, like we have been doing.
