Regular season results at previous FBS stops
Central Michigan
Year 1: 4-7
Year 2: 6-5
Year 3: 9-4 (MAC champs)
Cincinnati
Year 1: 9-3
Year 2: 10-3 (Big East champs)
Year 3: 12-0 (Big East champs)
Notre Dame
Year 1: 7-5
Year 2: 8-4
Year 3: 12-0
At Cincy he had Tony Pike for his last 2 years, but at CMU and ND in year three it was the first years starting for Dan LeFevour and Everett Golson respectively so it's not like he had seniority and experience at the QB position all the time in those years either.
Now the transfer portal and NIL didn't exist in those years, but it's still something to think about, especially since BK said even before the season that year 3 is when you should really start to have your program fully built and running. I know last night and this year's defensive performances are frustrating especially given how the offense has performed. Obviously changes on the defensive staff and special teams staff are needed, I think BK knows this too. And hopefully the younger DBs like Stamps and Toviano can take steps forward and we won't have to rely on the portal so much for those positions going forward like we've needed the last 2 years and hopefully we can get a DL coach in place that won't have to leave for medical reasons right before the season. We haven't had continuity at DL coach here in god knows how long.
Just something to think about as the emotion of last night starts to wane

Question for you, looking at the current state of the roster, our current recruiting situation, and our schedule next year, do you think we will end up being a better team in year 3?

Personally I don’t see is being markedly better next year. This recruiting class isn’t as sting as we need it to be.

That’s all fine and good but we are going to take a step back next year. It’s almost inevitable
If we don’t, it will be maybe the best coaching job in BKs career
Losing JD, Nabers, Thomas, Diggs. Even if Nuss has a pretty good season as a first time starter, the offense will take a big step back.
There isn’t much SEC level talent on defense and even a brand new defensive coaching staff will be limited in what they can do unless we get a ton of players from the portal and they all hit.
Then there’s the schedule. USC, UCLA, Oklahoma to go along with je usual SECw schedule. And we don’t play Auburn which would have been nice while they are rebuilding.
2024 is shaping up to be a rough one.
