Fellow LSU fans, those of you who are all gushy for saban, please sack up and support our damn fine football team and the most successful coach LSU has ever had, Les freaking Miles.
F CnS and F all those who support him.

I love Les but hard to argue with Sabans results
Saban is a superior recruiter. Possibly the best ever. This trumps coaching styles.
LSU has the best team of recruiters but Saban is a master.

Your post makes it obvious enough that you're talking about sylve and crutchfield

He owns saban, so..:..
He's 2-2 against Saban and his #1 ranked gators were taken to the woodshed in 2009. Like 3 touchdowns taken to the woodshed. They got taken to the woodshed again the following year and then urban's health issues popped up.
Give it to urban though, he had his team ready to play last year in New Orleans and they didn't panic when they fell down 21-6. They stuck to the game plan and outplayed Alabama

You aren't listening... The list goes on, from both LSU and bama players... Matt Mauck is leading the campaign and has used the word "hate" when describing him...
Would you mind linking some proof to your claims?

I think Saban is a better game day coach. But if u look at the record, u have to go with Les.

Well, since the OP asked specifically which style of coaching - I like CLM style. Saban seems like that dick assistant coach you had in high school. Both can draw out the best in their players, one is lighter than the other in approach.

I'll take Saban but Miles has done a great job

When Les has a QB he trusts, his offensive scheme that everyone hates is pretty damn affective.
Unfortunately recent memory besides Russell, Flynn, then Mettenberger, and Harris recently is haunted with bad QB play from Lee, Jefferson, and Jennings.
Was it poor development or just really bad QB's? Who knows, but like I stated, when Les has a QB he has trust in, the offense rolls.

They are both outstanding coaches. Very different, but both great. Personally, I'd want to play for Miles because he seems to genuinely care for his players whereas Saban is all about the "process".

Saban is like the King of Coaches. Both of them work their staffs to death! Miles learned to gamble at a young age from his father. He knows when to fold em, maybe!! He is very lucky. I never really heard much about his recruiting, but he seems to get most of them that he goes after. Of course, great players make great coaches what they are. He is great, this year.

Not really a comment on Saban, or Miles...
But I've come to believe the best HC's (as long as they have CEO type leadership and organizational skills) are defensive minded or former defensive coaches.
Because a defensive minded/former coach does not have an offensive "style" or "system" AND they are well versed at finding weaknesses in defenses and I believe they are more in-tune with finding tendencies also.
So the end result of that is (A) a def coach is more fluid in his offense, including play calling and (B) looks for and is better at finding weaknesses to attack on the opposing team's D. So that former D coordinator will usually have the initiative because he attacks weak spots where the O-minded coach will attack where he always attacks and the opposing D will have the initiative because of that and it's adjustments. Also helps with predictability. All based on having the horses, but not including recruiting in this.
That's why you'll see the Patriots run 40+ times one game, and then pass 60 times the next.

quote:I see Saban as that hard-nosed boss at work that you might not want to go out and drink with him after work, but love him in the workplace because you get shite done and he provides you with the tools to do that. In the end, the all the personal shite isn't a problem because you know he's going to get the best out of you because he wants the best for himself and no one can mess with either of you.
I don't know about coaching style, because neither has ever been my coach.
As far as coaching personality, you just can't beat Miles. It would probably be a joy playing for him.
As far as Saban, he is obviously way more dry in personality, but I don't think I have ever heard any of his college players say a bad word about him. Many of his players seem to look at him like a father, and testify to being better men when they leave the program.
You can't go wrong with either one of them, but if I had to pick one to play for with a gun to my head, I would pick Miles.
Miles I see as the boss that you like to work for, you want to achieve for him and that's the driving force to achieve the same level of performance that you would with the Saban-Boss. You would have to maintain a higher level of "self-motivation" and "self-oversight" with the Miles-Boss... BUT, you do that because it's understood that's what's expected of you.
Both give you the resources/tools to be successful (e.g. get you to the NFL draft).
The difference would be in the employee. If you're the work stays at work type person, you won't meet Saban's expectations. If you're that type of employee under Miles, you naturally shed that line of thinking because you will automatically out of desire to please (where under Saban you will have to find a new home and he will find someone who will meet those expectations).

i think UM's has to be included in any discussion of the best coach of the generation.

If we don't run that stupid wildcat play in 2012, we probably would've gotten the first down and Bama never gets the ball back. Everybody in the stadium knew exactly what was coming when Ware came in. I hate the toss dive, but that was definitely a time when we should've just lined up and run it down their throat.
