This, we've had some good ones, but it's Simmons no question

If we're talking strictly the best basketball player...Simmons and its not close.

Now we can all debate who was best player in terms of fan appreciation, tenure, production, W's-L's, etc....

Simmons and Mickey both had many lazy moments, so they leave a negative impression.

I agree, I think they both tended to play when they felt like it.

And that is one of my main issues with CJJ, unfortunately this type of thing was allowed to often without real consequences.

I think you saw the manifestation of that culture last year in spades.

You're arguing which team was better. Martin is not better than Simmons as an individual player. Martin was on a pretty good team with Mickey. The team sucked last year but that's not on Simmons. More on guys like Quarterman throwing up garbage the whole game.

By best player under Jones I assume you mean performance-wise not talent-wise.

1. Mickey - Defensive monster, led the NCAA in blocks his sophomore year, rebound machine, also averaged 14ppg. Only LSU player besides Shaq with 100+ blocks in a season.

2. Simmons - Scored at will, but behind Mickey for me because he was weak defensively.

3. Martin - Great all-around player his sophomore year.

4. Hornsby - Very consistent shooter. Ole Miss 3 at the buzzer.

Ben Simmons, and it isn't even close.

Look at the skill set. Don't look at the team's W/L record.

I don't think the NBA Analysts got it wrong having Simmons #1 overall, while Jarell Martin got taken 25th overall in a draft prior.

Ben Simmons eats Jordan Mickey for breakfast and defecates Jarell Martin.

"best player" is pretty cut and dry.

martin had wayyyy more of an impact! he stayed 2 years and brought LSU to the NCAA tourney! not to mention the amazing dunks

listen dude

this is about the best player

not who you liked better, or who had the more impact

Simmons is a better player than martin- period

right

the vitriol on this board for Simmons is sad

Do I wish he showed more emotion? Take over games more often? yes

but there are plenty of other areas of the program to point a finger before you get to the guy who averaged a double double.

Hornsby injury, JJ just not being a good bball coach, Quarterman's inability to realize he was not ever "the man" and taking horribly bad shots and hanging on to the ball for far too long as well as lazy passing

Ben simmons and not really debateable

Seriously?

Simmons had the best STATS. That much isn't debatable. I would argue both Mickey and Martin had more of an impact on the outcome of a game.

Mickey's defense pretty much willed us into the tournament his final year here.

The fact that this year's team looks to be about equal to if not slightly better than last year's team should say something about Simmons as a player.

Great players win. Great players lead. There's more to it than being a freak athlete who was essentially a layup and put-back specialist on offense.

it's a simple concept and you're attempting to muddy up the waters to suite your narrative

Simmons is the best individual player under Johnny Jones, and this isn't debatable. Every goddamn NBA GM would agree with me.

Christ.

Mickey and Martin as second year pros couldn't handle high school junior Ben Simmons, much less LSU freshman Ben Simmons.

LSU fans are still in the era of learning that coaching matters. In about two years, they'll get another taste when we step down in acumen with football yet again.
