McClure in his 12th year, in the NFL
Faneca 13th year
Mawae 17th. year
Not too many schools can claim OL like that.
The NFL has two players starting on the OL that are 6'1" Todd Mc is one of them. With him its all about technique. Not the talles or biggest, just one of the better. Want to have fun, watch him play a game. Sometimes its better not to follow the ball. Two of the starting OLmen on the Falcons were not drafted out of college.....FYI.

You youngsters should have seen the '87 O-line. Perhaps the nastiest O-line that LSU has ever fielded, and I mean ever.

No doubt. I met one of the coaches in Dallas one time, that was with E when he was up in Detroit. RIP....

If you are talking about what 5 players would be greatest LSU offensive line if placed together I think you are forgetting about Lance Smith.
I would go:
LT-Whitworth
LG-Andolsek
C-Mawae
RG-Faneca
RT-Lance Smith
with Norwood,Hubicz and Wilkerson in reserve
best single unit that played together undoubtedly 87.

If he was it still points to the fact how much good Coaching does for a team. There is no doubt that LSU has had talent even in the down years. I like what Coach Bear Bryant said back in the late to early sixties.
quote:
"Give me LSU's talent and I will win the SEC every year and compete for the National Championship."
This is a myth. Tommy Casanova has stated on numerous occasions that when he first got to Cinncinati after being drafted one of the first things Paul Brown discussed with him was how LSU was able to win so many big games with their talent level. Tommy on thinking for a second and realizing how few Tigers were in the pros compared to the big time schools like Notre Dame. Michigan and USC immediately said he realized how good a Coach Charlie Mac was and how every game though LSU was usually undersized how hard they played.
If you dont believe me look it up. I will take Paul Brown's evaluation of big time talent over Bear Bryant's any day.
