Yeah, thats fair enough.

But dont forget Mauck was pretty effective as a sophmore. Thats when you could really see things coming together for the program. Other than the VTech opening game loss, (remember VT had already played a tuneup game, and we were breaking in a young team) we were rolling, highlighted by a beatdown of florida on the road. Thats the game Mauck got hurt in and we went on to lose 4 of 7 without him. I believe 2002 and 2004 could have been near championship level with Mauck at QB.

"But dont forget Mauck was pretty effective as a sophmore."

He was effective but we did not lean heavily on him as we relied very heavily on the running game after that. It really was too bad that he went down near the end of the beatdown in Gainesville as the team really struggled after that, and it also seemed that Mauck was really coming into his own. Of course, he went on to have a wonderful season the next year and win a NC.

Classic Saban Football. Just don't lose the game for us.

That 2002 team was really good. Saban made a huge mistake having Matt in the game when it was clearly over. No telling how far that team could have gone in 2002. A lot of folks don't realize that in 2003 Matt set a school record for td passes in a single season. Not saying he is in the best convo, but he was the leader of a title winning team.

Best is a relative term.
Most talented; Jones(NFL HoF if not for career-ending injuries)
Toughest; Tittle(NFL HoF barely over Alan Risher)
Best career- Hodson
Most opportunistic (Flynn)
Biggest over-achiever (Mike Hillman with the nod over Stokely and Tyler)
Best arm(Russell; barely over Jones)
Best field-general(Hodson again)

First name that pops in my head is Hodson for these questions.

Then I start flip flopping between him and Jones, but for pure stats it's Hodson hands down.

I'm pretty sure he was 1st team SEC 4 years in a row
