In my opinion:
1. Mainieri
2. Johnson
3. Miles
I know Coach Miles has won a national championship, but he's made some coaching decisions in games that have made me scratch my head.

Miles and Johnson: one can recruit but cann't coach, the other is the opposite
PM can do both
PM can do both

mainieri had probably the hardest job of the three. he had basically nothing when he got here and had 2 #1 recruiting classes and has put our baseball team back at the top. i'd say he is 5the best coach of the three. les is a great coach but really all he has done is continue the success we were having and not letting us slip back to mediocrity. johnson got the good players we had to start playing like they were capable of. only time will tell for him.

All three are great coaches. I'm glad LSU has them. Who cares about ranking them?

Yeah, the ONLY coach out of the 3 WITH a National Championship ain't worth squat. I love your reasoning, do you work for the government or AIG?
So, I guess Larry Coker is one of the greatest coaches ever at Miami?

Mainieri is following Smoke and Johnson followed Brady so it's easier to look good.

And I picked Trent because (slightly ahead of Paul):
He is in command at all times. Not once have I seen any player even think about getting disrespectful towards him. Yes, it's been one year, but I liked what I saw. He makes halftime adjustments. He handled the Terry Martin situation and rather than run a kid off, Martin bought into Trent. The dude just demands excellence and he's a great x's and o's guy.
Paul is right there. I love what he's done with this program. I like how he gets his respect and I think 9/10 times he makes a great decision. He cleaned up Smoke's mess.
Les is Les. I like him for his loyalty and he's a lot like a Yankee Chollie Mac. That said, he's made some very questionable decisions. Yes, he has a NC, but jeez...he should have had two of them. The 2006 team never should have lost. The '07 team was awesome, but Miles had some luck go his way. Of course, to be good, you have to be lucky.
I like all three. If I am going to pick a guy to lead a team - in any sport - give me Trent.

I love Miles as a coach. He can recruit. He's shown great loyalty to his players while at the same time being a disciplinarian without being a jackass.
But I love that he has challenged conventional wisdom in his approach to game calling, especialy in his calculated risks. Everyone says he's this crazy gambler, but his fourth down strategy is imminently logical and makes even more sense given the team's strength of running the football.
Still, I love PM. He built us back into a juggernaut in a short time period. He can recruit, and he has shown incredible flexibility in his approach to the game. I think his solution to the bullpen this year illustrates his approach and highlights all of his strong suits.
Trent, I really like, but I want to see what happens when he doesn't have a senior laden team. But the early results are promising.
I'd rank em:
Les
Mainieri
Johnson
But I wouldn't trade any of them.

1. LM = Has the NC, but this year will determine if he's Larry Coker.
2. PM = Already made it back to the CWS after Smoke's dismantling of the team.
3. TJ = NCAA tournament, SEC Champs (in a weak year), not a bad start.

You people are going off of ooey gooey feelings in the middle of baseball season, and are leaving logic at the door to many of your arguments.
1. Miles -- The guy has reached the pinnacle of his specific profession. None of the other's have done this.
2. Maneri -- Guy has made it to Omaha, which a more difficult task than making into the NCAA tournament. When and if he wins a title, you could very easily place him ahead of Miles. To Maneri's credit, he seems to develop his players better than Miles, but that is comparing apples and oranges.
3. Johnson -- Guy has surely impressed in just one year, but I would really like a bigger body of work to go off of before placing him ahead of the other two.

Best LSU Coach - Marineri, Miles or Johnson?
Would like your input based on their ability to develop players, prepare for a game, and make adjustments during. My opinion:
Miles is very good preparing for bowl games.
Johnson showed a knack for player development.
Marineri seems to have a solid grasp of all three.
I would give the nod to PM.

Stop, Please!
How can you even begin to think of comparing coaches from 3 different sports? (must be a ranter thing)
Football, Baseball, and Basketball call for different skills and temperment, with differing levels of support and advise from assistant coaches and differing levels of personal involvement with the players, etc. Suffice it to say that LSU has Head Coaches (and assistants) that will stand with anyone in the SEC or the NCAA for that matter.
How unproductive it is to try and compare the skill sets of our World Class Head Coaches.
I wouldn't trade any of the three, for any set in the nation. That includes Florida, Bama, USC (east or west) etc.
Now if you want to compare our set of coaches against other Universities, say the word!
Geaux Tigers! On to the CWS!!!!!

Meh. I'm done with this thread. I'm not going to argue about three coaches whom I have a ton of respect for and am gld to have aboard (sorry that I ever did). This thread is "Best LSU Coach"...not "Coach with the most championships." Coaching is a lot more than winning. I think we, of all fans, should know that from Mr. Brady and ths past football season.
Miles got his in year 3.
PM is in year 3.
TJ has just begun and should do great stuff.
