Never understood the big hype on these, imo bourbon drinkers who like this just fantasize about seamen and pirates all day because they're big burly men who can take what they want.

Corn juice has nothing to do with the fricken ocean.

Depends

Makers is the old standby if you can't make up your mind. It goes down great either neat or mixed.

If I can only bring in a small flask I'm going for something I love drinking straight (not just tolerate) so I'm thinking that Col. Taylor, Turkey Rare Breed, Angels Envy, etc

If I'm taking the fake binoculars (my personal favorite flask) I have two 8 oz flasks to fill so I might go with a sipper in one (for me) and Rich and Rare in the other (to share)

Is there a bad game day bourbon?

If we're talking about tailgating, in Baton Rouge, then yes. Pretty much most bourbons are bad from August-mid-October in Baton Rouge. It's simply too hot.

Downvote away.

OGD BIB or 114.

Give me higher proof, high rye and cheap all day long. Sip, mix, etc and won't drain the pocketbook.

It’s definitely a sales gimmick, but the bourbon itself is not bad at all.

Pappy Van Winkle Special Reserve is the best flavor and tasting bourbon I have ever had, can’t go wrong. I only drink it for SEC games and big OOC games though, never waste the good stuff on the pay-for-play games.

After seeing this post I looked up bourbons and they have a bottle of rip van winkle for more than 34,000 ! Wtf I thought it was in a different currency. Anyway I’d post a picture but I just typed most expensive bourbon. I hardly drink anymore because of my wore out liver. Cheers !

If you can find it, let me know. Before the Pappy craze I found HANDLES of it at Walmart for $25 once and, like an idiot, I only bought 3. I should have cleared the shelf.

And for whoever said Pappy, yeah, sure, ok. I would not bring Pappy to a tailgate. Elijah Craig small batch has been my under $30 go to lately, but Bulliet is great for the price. I also got several handles on Henry McKenna from Total Wine for cheap and it is a good one for tailgating. For tailgating, I want a bourbon that is good for sipping, but cheap enough that you don't mind someone mixing it with Coke, which you know will happen.

Now, if we're sipping at home, that's a little different.

I love bourbon all year long. I like it unmixed -on ice. I drink Buffalo trace for “all day” I have a high tolerance. Can drink a 5th if I spread it over 6-8 hours. I say it’s an 80 dollar bourbon that sells for 25! It’s very good!

For a nice night I’m big on Blantons. Eagle rare. Angels envy. Woodford reserve. In no particular order. Either will work! ….Great idea for a post, may find a bourbon or two to try after reading the posts. Thanks guys

The only option in my opinion. Smooth sip, no heartburn, no hangover.

It’s a good $20 bourbon, it’s nowhere near an $80 bourbon. It’s way too thin to complete with $40 bottles.

For cocktails that would be Makers Mark. I like mine with Ginger beer and a lemon wedge.

For sipping, hands down it is Blanton's. Smoothest ever to my taste!

Roughly 20 bucks at Aquistapace's. I don't care about trying to impress anyone.
