Tommy Casanova. Deserved to see his name mentioned in this thread.
Can't always go by the stats because often they throw away from the star players.

AJ Duhe deserves consideration as well.

Mathieu and Peterson were both badasses though.

This just isn’t true and is another example of Peterson's perception being better than he actually was on the field.

He most certainly did not “dominate” Julio Jones once, much less twice.

AJ Green also had 2 good games against Lsu, one of them with joe cox as his qb.

Texas am went at Peterson repeatedly in the bowl game with Jeff fuller.

Boyd from unc also has a monster game in that season opener.

Peterson was a very good player but the narrative that he dominated one side of the field and nobody ever did anything against him just isn’t true.

Mathieu legitimately altered the course of several games on defense, on coverage teams, and returning kicks. They aren’t really comparable, but if you insist then the comparison would weigh heavily in mathieu’s favor.

Mathieu. Think of it this way: If one of those 2 were going to enroll right now as a freshman, who would you rather have back?

Ok dumbass... Hilliard could play in today’s game
Just as he did back in the 80’s...... prove me wrong..... and he would have been better than Fournette.

Hilliard could probably compete in today's game. I'd agree that the early 80's had a more narrow talent gap with today's game than when Tommy played (late 60s-early 70s).

Peej, I agree that Hilliard could play in today's game. I don't know that he would be better than Fournette.

PP7 is the most gifted college cb I've ever seen.

TM7 is the most dynamic defensive game changer though so he wins this battle

Casanova getting "smoked"?? He made All Pro in the NFL 4 times, 3 times as first team, the other as 2nd team. Which unquestionably was against the best foot ball players in the world. Three times first team All American.Played RB, WR, DB, and returned both KO's and punts. Returning kicks, he obviously had above average speed. As well, he had above average intelligence as he became an MD. This is his career resume', not one or two yrs.

Wasn't one of the big plays when he somehow got matched up on a safety?

Mathieu's value transcended defense. He could change games all on his own on special teams. I bet he could've been a hell of a force to be reckoned with on offense if they'd let him.

In 2008 they didn’t match up.

In 2009 Peterson thoroughly dominated him. About 70 yards of Julio’s 102 came on one play when Peterson was on the bench with cramps. And don’t forget Peterson, with the game on the line, took Julio’s lunch money, but the refs inexplicably ruled it out of bounds. 2009 was an arse-whipping of epic proportions.

In 2010 Julio had 10 catches for 89 yards. At least two of those catches were on third and short and Peterson shut that bitch down short of the first down. They repeatedly went to Julio to sustain drives, and Peterson repeatedly ended their drives, sometimes with a tackle short of the first down and sometimes with a pass breakup - except that one when the QB hit Julio on a quick slant over the goal. Peterson played it perfectly, arriving with the ball, but Julio hung on and got the TD. I’ve never been prouder of an LSU DB, and never has an LSU DB been asked to do so much.

What you are not considering is how heavily Bama relied on Julio beating his guy. They threw to him a lot. Many were short passes that are sure completions on which they rely on Julio to beat his man. Patrick Peterson handled him two years in a row. Game! Set! Match!

That strip six vs. Kentucky

His freshman year. I can’t remember who it was against. But he strip tackled a big tight end, hit the ground like a cat, and bounced over the end to recover the ball. It was unnatural. His first turnover in the NFL was similar. He dove and punched the ball out and was on his feet like he made a deal with the devil.

Oh please. Tommy would've seen ZERO playing time had he been on any LSU team from 2008-2011

Not true. He was not as good as PP7 or Mathieu, but he was better than Eric Reid or Brandon Taylor.
