+1
The thing I remember most is how well he ran routes and how open he was when he caught the ball. His YAC (yards after catch) must have been way up there.

Eric Martin was my favorite. In the infamous Tulane game (the one that was called early due to the massive brawl), Martin ran half way across the field to arrive first and started arse kicking on several Tulane guys. It was beautiful!

Eric Martin, Josh Reed, Michael Clayton, Carlos Carson, Wendell Davis...a case could made for any of the above.

Josh Reed for sure and he will go into the books as the poster boy for a player being open to try new positions, as will Devery Henderson to some extent. All I seem to remember is Reed catching a pass on one of those little bubble screens and then running with it.
In my book, Eric "E.T. phone home" Martin is the best.

Seriously, though. I think Michael Clayton was. Josh Reed was a product of the offense we ran for a large part, Clayton was just the best athlete in LSU history.
Are you kidding? We have three or more WRs RIGHT NOW that are better athletes than Clayton. The main three, Lafell, Tolliver, and RR, are more athletic while being just as big as Clayton. Clayton was smart and tough as nails, but he wasn't very fast at all, and that puts a big hole in his athleticism.

Clayton was in the same offense as Reed there is only one answer, and it's Josh Reed
Exactly. Reed is the best WR in SEC history for being all-SEC in 2000, and having the best season any WR in SEC history has had in 2001. No LSU WR can touch that resume.

I give Josh Reed props for trying a new position, but Eric Martin played his entire freshman year at RB - he got #41 because he was a running back and never changed it when he switched positions.
The 3 years he played at WR, the offense was dominated by the Dalton and James gang, so he certainly didn't have as many balls thrown to him as others had. He came through in the clutch, and had a very solid pro career.

can you elaborate on this brawl? was it sparked by the late td pass by wickersham? was there any fallout?

Wendell Davis was very good for his era. LSU threw the ball alot because of Tommy Hodson, but not the kind of numbers that team's put up now-a-days. He would have had career team and SEC records in a more modern offense.
He also would have had the best NFL career if not for one of the most horrific injuries in NFL history. He tore both patella tendons at the same time on the horrible turf in Philadelphia's Veteran's Stadium. He tried to come back and play one more season with a different team but
couldn't recover.

If we go with the LSU career, all were good. IMO Carlos Carson had the greatest single game (go check out the 5 rep - 5 TD game). My fav was Eric Martin b/c of the ability to catch and attack after catch. As far as a good pro career, Bowe might end up the best, but as of now, gota go with Steve Van Buren. Check-out the all pro stats. Great Eagle player.

From the one's I've personally witnessed...Wendell Davis was the best, with Reed a close second. I was but a tyke back then, but Andy Hamilton seemed a beast as well. Close behind are Clayton, Martin, Carson and Bowe. And close behind that group are Kennison, Moss, Kinchen, Bowe and Wilson.

I have seen them all (mentioned) and Wendell Davis gets my vote.

that's all well and good except for the fact that steve van buren wasn't a wide receiver. he was a tailback. if we're gonna throw running backs in here, then i vote kevin faulk or how bout billy cannon

the two best i've seen at LSU were Wendell Davis and Josh Reed. Eric Martin was a close third.
