Can anyone explain the benefit of being a 2 vs. 3 seed in the regional?

Who you rather play the 17-32nd rated team in America in game 1 or the 33-48?

None, I'd rather be a better 3 seed against a worse 2 seed in a non SEC regional

Edit: To clarify after regionals are set 2's and 3's are so subjective

We're not going to an SEC regional either way

And they don't seed 1 through 64 now, do they?

IE no such thing as a low 2/high 3 seed as far as I know

I’d rather play a weak 2 than a strong 3.

Only 1-16.

All 4 seeds are automatic qualifiers with some 3's and the rest are filled in based on geography and placing teams not in the same conferences.

If we are the 2 seed we luck up by playing the 3 seed. If we are the 3 seed unfortunately we have to play the 2 seed

Would it make it more likely to host if the regional you are paired with has an upset? Say a 3 seed wins that regional and you win yours as a 2 seed. Or does it still go to bidding?

That is one benefit of being a 2 over 3

Ok I don't follow your logic then

I'd rather be a 2 seed and think it matters. I'd hate to be a 3 and end up facing a highly rated 2

They don't. The committee truly does put an emphasis on the regionals being "regional" as much as reasonably possible. So you might get a "strong" 2 playing a "strong 3" simply because of geography.

The only real benefit in the regional round is being the home team as a 2 seed.

However, being a 2 seed gives LSU a much better chance to host a Super Regional if the No.1 seed in the corresponding regional fails to advance.

One advantage of being a #3 is that if you win, you get to bat last against the #1 in the next game.

That said, I don’t think it makes a ton of difference either way. Ultimately it comes down to matchups and I’m sure there will be some brackets where being a #2 looks better and others where you’d rather be #3.

My point is I don't think LSU is going to be a high 2 no matter what they do this week. I would rather be a weaker 3 seed than to be matched up with the best non SEC national seed as a 2 seed.

Much better chance to host a Super Regional if the paired regional host doesn't advance. The higher seed has priority for hosting.

If seeds are equal than the best bid/proposal wins, and I doubt any 2-seed out there can outbid LSU for a Super Regional.
