Jones would be well below .500 with someone like Indiana's starting 5.

Johnny Jones needs to go coach a high school team and GTFOH.

It’s hard for me to believe that Simmons’ game was developed all that much in his one year at college. He played on a disappointing LSU team that underperformed wildly. His coach, Johnny Jones, seemed in over his head from the start and did little to improve the part of his game that Simmons needed working on — his shooting.

but he needed to stay another year and develop his game at LSU instead of with NBA coaching!!11

Probably the most accurate statement made about this season.

Ben Simmons was not the issue, he did his part just look at his numbers. He is not a leader and he played for a poorly coached team. The whole issue with this team was coaching.

Ben Simmons coming to LSU has set us back 3-4 years unless we hire a new HC

It's just not his personality, which isn't a bad thing.

It is a bad thing, though. He cost LSU basketball its best chance at being fanbase relevant year over year, and more specifically, sank a season with the best roster top to bottom since he's been here.

yea, i meant more of it not being a bad thing that he's not a total prick coach. i don't think you need to be a bob huggins type coach to do well, but you gotta have the attention of your team. johnny didn't with Ben on the team, and it cost us a great season.

I agree. There is a threshold level of accountability you have to be able to exact from your team as a coach. Johnny is below that level.

Johnny is holding this program back. The coaching that he did this year has probably hurt future recruiting. I cannot believe Johnny still has a job at LSU.

Embarrassing coaches leads to an embarrassing program. Who wants to play at a university like that ?

No one wants to make this program matter. So have fun winning 12-14 games next season.

I am not a fan of the one and done...especially when the student/athlete doesn't even attend classes. I think the NBA should use MLB rules, either go pro after HS or stay at least 3 years. I hope LSU never has another 1 and don.

We did have a Walkup, but he got injured. I sure did miss Hornsby.

Ben Simmons should be the reason that they get rid of "one and done". I don't care which way it goes.

With the help of Brad Underwood...big difference. Expectation from coach was WAY different with him than Jones with Simmons, that's the difference.

They either need to sync it up with baseball, making it at 3 year commitment or do away with it completely. Looking at this season with Simmons and how legendary programs like Kentucky have to completely rebuild each year, one and done is a waste.

I respectfully disagree. The first 2/3rds of the season Simmons played with heart and effort. Sometime about 2/3rds into the season something happened to the team's chemistry, and Simmons' looked like a totally different player. Since Simmons' play was so instrumental in LSU's success to that point in the season, his decline in effort was noticeable as the entire team efficiency declined as well.

Simmons may have been the cause for the change in team chemistry, but I haven't seen or heard anything that to that effect. The one thing I do know is that Johnny Jones was not able to fix the breakdown in team chemistry.

The one and done makes it very difficult for the SEC consistently to compete at a high level. The SEC with the exception of Kentucky is by and large a football conference. If you want to compete for the one and dones on the recruiting trail which is how you win consistently in college basketball, the school will have to pay football coach money for basketball coaches and likely spend a considerable amount of money upgrading the facilities just like what is regularly done for football. I don't see the logic of that type of investment for student athletes who spend about 6 months on campus.
