Legend has it he designed the "New" Bridge.

All I know is I enjoy the game when Ben is on. He gives a lot of insight that you wouldn't get from a lot of other color guys. Like when he spoke about the rotation speed of different pitchers. He has college and pro experience and also has a good sense of humor.

Most games are not that long, and you don't need to fill space.
.Every color guy must fill space, that is the actual job description.
You can do it in different ways, you can fill the time with stats and such, you can be hokey and fill it with personal stuff, or you can do it with straight analysis of the game. Ben does a good job filling the gaps with a nice mixture. Is he the best in the college business, maybe not...but he is the best for calling Tiger games by a long shot.

Ben was on a full basketball scholarship as a deal between skip and Dale. Skip got Ben. Dale got Ricky Blanton.

My post was to the person that said he wasn’t on a basketball scholarship. I have no idea about what you’re talking about.
Oddly enough it was the same person that said both

Have you ever thought about how much your experience is improved by people talking? Do you sit around your house sometimes when it's quiet and think "man, I wish someone would just talk about anything right now"? Where is it listed in the job description of a color guy to just say anything? The position of color commentator was always reserved for someone to talk about the game and give analysis, whereas the play-by-play guy just calls the action. But it seems to have been decided lately that we just need people to fill air, and I wonder who thinks things are better that way.

I never said he wasn't. I very plainly said I love the guy. I think he's down to earth, funny, and knowledgeable. I just happen to think he could do a little less repeating. The broadcast will survive if you skip 30 seconds of saying something you already said earlier in the game.
That's all. This wasn't meant as a take down of Ben, but I anticipated that this board would take the flamethrower to my comment, considering who it is I was talking about.

ever, he sure does copy and paste his commentary quite a lot. He has repeated the same talking points all season, and usually multiple times within a game. And he says it almost the exact same way, every time.
Am I the only one who has noticed this, or are we all just trying to act like we don't notice it, because we like him?
Baseball games are slow and long, lot of air to fill and some people might be hearing for the first time.

Be more fixated ffs.
You make a point, people politely disagree, then you keep replying and talking about the board taking a flamethrower to your comment.

I love a lot of guys that tell the same stories around the hunting camp fires too, it’s human nature. I just chuckle and enjoy the passion of the story teller.

Man, we love to complain. Now we are complaining about Ben's commentary. You guys really need to go outside and breathe.

Yeah, funny stories are entertaining, I agree. I don't mind some talking. What I asked is what is made better by people just talking for the sake of talking. When you're in repeat mode to fill air, what's entertaining about that?

And there is a mute button if you just want to watch the game and talk amongst yourselves.

What the heck are you talking about? I'm on the exact same subject I started on. What do mean be more fixated? I haven't replied multiple times with the flame thrower reference. I said it exactly one time. Look at the downvotes I got for my comment? That's what I mean by flame thrower. I figured that even though I "politely" (to use your word) stated that I love the guy, but that he can be a little repetitive, I would get overwhelmingly negative feedback because it's about everyone's favorite commentator, including mine.
you make it sound as though I'm jumping through random topics, when I've been on the same point the entire time.

I was just adding some info regarding his BB time at DSHS to go along with what you stated.

Shut up sunshine, Ben is absolutely the Best analyst in College baseball and we are fortunate enough to have him represent LSU. He is still the best and his loyalty & love for the Tigers never effects his job.
I can’t believe the Grammar fuzz didn’t correct me; “affects his job”
Oh well I guess the Rant was not watching or in a good mood for the weekend- my money is most people don’t think of it either AVEN

i think there is a heirAchy of scholarships if you’re on 2 teams which one counts
otherwise ever DB and WR would get a track scholarship because who really cares about T&F if you can get a bunch of extra scholarships for a money maker

You don't get to decide who gets to talk, buddy. And I agree that he's the best analyst in college baseball. Someone made a joke in reference to a comment we hear every broadcast (Frey being from Rosepine) and I mentioned that there are a lot of things he repeats. And it's true. It just is. Maybe it doesn't annoy others as much as it does me, but it's still true. That doesn't change the fact that I still think very highly of Ben, as well as Lyn Rollins, who also repeats himself quite a lot.

I think Jesuit and Will Clark beat Denham in Ben’s Jr year and Denham beat them and won state the next year.

I'm an old man who has spent more time in the stadium & the Box than I want to remember - i.e., I saw Taylor, Cannon & the boys. But too old to go anymore. I've reached the point where I watch the games without sound - I still wish Ray Scott was still around - google it.
The one exception: Ben. Every time I listen to a game with him, I learn something. It's also fun.
