Thinking back on it...it was probably the skull-effing we gave Miami for the Peach Bowl.

I don't think Miles is the best X's and O's guy, but he's a great recruiter. Also, I think he's smart enough to know that he can hire great assistants, sit back, and let them do their thing. He's loyal to a fault, which while being a great quality to have, can infuritate the fans...see last year. But I think he realized his mistake, went out to get the best DC available for this team (IMHO), and I think we'll be able to look forward to a very good season.

Also, I think if Miles was better on the mic, and not so "mid-westerny," he'd be more respected nationally...and by the idiots that don't respect him here yet. I will say that he's gotten better on the mic since he's been here, but he's still not nearly as media-polished as a Meyer or a Stoops.

I think we're very lucky to have a coach like Miles.

I was pretty pissed we didn't come away with a win over either UF or Auburn in 06. I really thought that team should have been at least in the SECCG. At the time, I didn't realize how much Fisher held us back.

The lesticular calls against UF in 07 got me back on board, and since the famous press conference and beating of Tennessee, I have seen the light. I truly believe we are a better all around football team than with Saban. Saban may be a very good coach, but I doubt his ability to maintain a steady program.

It doesn't bother me either when people underestimate him. They will continue to make excuses as we continue to win.

I think Les shows much more personality than either of those coaches. I don't care if Meyer uses bigger words than Les, he looks like he's constipated during every interview. Les is actually pretty saavy with the media. He knows how to portray a confident, likable guy.

I agree. He knows how to be clear (the Herbsreit rebuttal demonstrated that) and he knows how to say absolutely nothing while filling air time (many instances of that).

To answer the OP, the performance of the 2007 team sold me. The MNC game performance cemented it.

I didn't say I wanted him to be the jackass that Stoops and Meyer are. Miles definitely comes off as likable in an interview, but his slow manner of speaking ("mid-westerny") and too many "ums" is why I think he's less polished.

I didn't say he wasn't savvy, just not polished.

that was not his call, punter saw the gunner uncovered and made the call. I talked to him about it later in the year and I asked him if Miles was upset about him doing it and he said he would have been if it had not worked, and started laughing..

I know it was a read, but the fact that the play is an option and on the table is from coaching.

You have to acknowledge the good and the bad. The bowl wins, the recruiting, the confidence in his players and staff. But there's also the Kentucky and Arkansas games of 07 which were inexcusable. The staff decision of 08 as well.

After Katrina, I bought into him. After the infamous press conference in 2007 ( and subsequently keeping his word to stay ), I became a fan. Its been a long time since LSU fans can speak in regards to leader of the football team as "our coach" and feel confident that he is our guy for as long as we want him ( and be successful at the same time ).

I was pretty sure after the Florida game on October 15, 2005. By the end of the pasting of Miami in the Chicken and Peaches Bowl, I was sold, and have remained so since. The way he handled that team in the Season of Katrina, both on and off the field, had "class act" written all over it.

This season will definitely be the crucial chapter of Les Miles at LSU. He has managed to recruit the best of the best and make adjustments in coaching when it was desperately needed, but now we have to see how well he manages HIS new talent all-around.

I always gave Les a chance. I felt I embraced him as our coach fairly early, but the day I truly accepted him as who I wanted at the helm of the LSU Tigers was before the SEC game claiming his position and PRIDE of his damn strong football team. He's always been classy.

To the douchebags still not sold on Miles, what's it going to take? Does the man have to show up to your double wide and personally give you a handjob before you wise the frick up and realize that he's the best coach LSU has had in the last several decades and that we're damn lucky to have him?
