That’s a straw man, you said this was the same situation. And you know damn well where this is going, don’t try to play naive on the issues you can’t defend while playing expert on the ones you can.

It will never get to the point where colleges are paying the players a salary.

It’s legal in every state already.

People freaking out about a possible rule change that hasn’t even happened are probably idiots or mortified of anything resembling change.

Basically what I’m seeing in this thread is people are scared that what currently already happens and has happened for decades might actually at some point in the future be able to be done above the table.

The horror

Probably the most vocal opponents of this fancy themselves champions of the free market and small government too

Dan Patrick and Richard Sherman we’re talking about this today and while advocating for paying players Sherman accidentally crushed his own argument. He said from a players point of view why do to a school who can’t promote you as well as others. For example USC would have an unprecedented surge in recruiting even if the coach had nothing to do with it. The teams with the most media and sponsorship opportunities would blow past the “college town” schools without earning a thing. And that’s just 1 of who knows how many hundreds of issues paying players will create.

You can’t know that because that’s where it’s headed. I agree players should be compensated for their likeness but that’s not the aim of this legislation. This is just a move to crack the flood gates. The people pushing this aren’t looking for fair, they’re looking to take over and line their own pockets.

You mean to tell me that programs whose alumni bases and fan bases have more resources and influence would get a leg up? That’s unheard of and nothing like how the game is today

Am I missing something? California passed law that athletes can be paid for their likeness! NCAA has not changed their rules for eligibility! Now personally, I believe NCAA better come up with a way to pay players something in addition to scholarships or this is going down a road they might not recover from!

No that’s not at all what I said. Fan bases and program resources have nothing to do with what I said. Corporate and media proximity is what I’m talking about and that has nothing to do with football or players well being. When teams like SMU, Temple, Rutgers and Northwestern start blowing by LSU for reasons that have nothing to do with football you’ll change your tune.

Of course fan base resources have a ton to do with your doomsday theory. Some insanely rich booster in Alabama could (maybe depending on how this rule hypothetically may change) still pay a player huge sums of money to promote his business and that has nothing to with media.

Bottom line that is that nothing regarding NCAA rules has changed. Until the rule changes and we know exactly how the rule changes we can speculate about how this hypothetical rule change might ruin the game all day and accomplish nothing.

Full Tuition, room and board is about 29K / year at LSU. Pay them a salary and let them cover college expenses unless they have an academic scholarship.

and what about the positions that do not get the press they will not get payed like the the skilled positions - perhaps from time to time offensive linemen might say '''lets see what these guys can do with no blocking''

Yes.

Might as well create a true minor league/feeder system, stop the college education scam and return college sports to the club level.
