Michigan State has 1 loss

And yet they find themselves among the ranks of the 2-loss teams in the BCS standings week after week. Why is that?

Because they needed a fake FG to beat Notre Dame?
Because they needed three 4th down conversions to beat Wisconsin?
Because they had to score two TDs in two minutes to beat Northwestern?
Because they were mauled by Iowa?
Because needed three 4th quarter TDs to beat Purdue?

Face it, if there is a team that's been luckier than LSU in recent history, it's Michigan State.

So you don't feel as though LSU's strength of schedule is higher than Wisconsin or Stanford?

And you do know, LSU's only loss was to undefeated #2 Auburn?

I honestly am interested in knowing your argument as to how they have an argument as the best 1 loss team.

I agree that we have played the toughest schedule. No doubt about that. But that isn't the only thing we judge teams on is it? Stanford and Wisconsin have played and looked better than us this year. We haven't really dominated anyone all year and we have constantly played down to the competiton.

If LSU had dominated its inferior opponents instead of playing down to them, they would be much stronger in the human polls and probably be ranked #4 in the BCS rankings.

Th thing is LSU has beat elite teams this year (Bama, MSU). So it really doesn't matter they play down to their competition if they are winning. Of all the one loss teams we have the best loss. We lost at Auburn by one score.

Also we have a better set of wins than both the undefeated mid majors and probably even Oregon.

I personally would rank Auburn #1 meaning I think they would beat anyone else in the nation. IMO I think you could easily make a logical argument LSU should be possibly #2. I would rank them #3 behind Oregon though until AU kills the ducks in the NC.

Why doesn't TCU join the Big 12 now?

Also Robert Smith probably doesn't even deserve to be a high school football announcer.

MSU is not close to being an elite team. Bama could very well end up as a 3 loss team, which is hardly elite. Sure, we have the best loss. So fricking what? If a win is a win then a loss is a loss right?

because they do nothing to help the Big12. It isn't like TCU is saying no to an invite, the Big12 never asked

At least Smith is consistent. He punished Oregon for playing a close game against Cal and punished LSU for playing a close game against Ole Miss.

yet 2 weeks ago he had a raging hard-on for TCU after they beat up a grossly over-rated Utah team. Smith said "TCU is the most complete team in the country." Dude must be smoking the good shite.

Of all the one-loss teams, LSU also has the ugliest set of wins. There is nothing on Stanford's resume as ugly as the Tennessee win, the North Carolina win or the McNeese State win.

And nothing as impressive as the Alabama win, so what's your point?

I guess my thinking is all 3 are one lost teams. So the next "tie breaker" would be strength of schedule. Clearly LSU had that.

It's easier to win impressively when you play a weak schedule for many different reasons.

Now, if the 3 teams were close to even on SOS, I could see then going to points scored/allowed and impressive wins. I just don't think you should jump SOS to get to it.

The top 5 in the SEC west are big time teams that have beat up on each other.

Also I mentioned MSU since they are currently ranked. I was basically going to just consider a ranked team elite since so many of these teams in the discussion have shitty SOS.

My point was that criticizing a team that wins for playing down to their competition is stupid. The idea of a team playing down to their competition isn't something that makes them worse than another.

So what if LSU played down to Wisconsin or Standford's level as long as LSU wins.

My point is that it does matter if you play down to the competition and obviously James, Smith and Herbstreit agree with me.

If you win why does it matter?

You play to win the game.
