Baton Rouge ranked 10th best town in the SEC

Granted, I haven't been to all 14 places but that seems very low to me. Columbia, MO and Fayetteville, AR are actually very cool and deservedly high, but even Gainesville is nothing really special.
SEC cities

Tuscaloosa is way too high at #11. It's basically Slidell with a college.

Fayetteville sucks! We went this past year and it’s a step above College Station which is awful. BR much better

College Station being better than Baton Rouge tell me whoever made this has never been to either city.

Athens and oxford
Then everybody else as far as towns go

Fayetteville is lovely. Easily a top 5 college town in the SEC.

Only thing credible about this ranking is having Starkville last.
No way in hell Nashville is anything but #1 on this list when you are ranking the town/city as a whole. Baton Rouge being listed as 10 is laughable, especially when placed behind towns like Gainesville and College Station. Additionally, while Oxford does have a lot of southern charm, that is all it has. There is not a damn thing else to do there and barely anywhere to stay. Same can be said for Auburn, minus the southern charm part.
TLDR: List is crap!

You are crazy, Fayetteville is awesome...
List looks about right to me. The drop after #2 is pretty substantial.
ETA: actually don't get the Oxford hype. Everyone basically goes to 1 bar and it's like $80 cover unless you know someone. Ridiculous.

I sort of saw it as ranking the towns as “college towns” - basically the atmosphere of the “town” in relation to the college and, namely, football gameday (look at the discussion Re: Lexington, KY and also Columbia, SC, which is a pretty neat town, but their stadium is terribly sited).
Baton Rouge proper doesn’t contribute much to the LSU game day experience. Athens and Oxford (and Fayetteville) are a different story.

Lexington is rated way too low. Beautiful city, horse farms, great weather...always one of my favorite trips.

Athens. Auburn. Knoxville. After that there isn’t much difference.

I get what you are saying; but your first sentence is the epitome of what is wrong with this ranking in that the author provides no context or basis for his subjective opinion on the subject. Hell, in his 2 paragraph setup, he even says this:
quote:
Some of these towns are destinations even to the most jaded outsiders, while others don’t offer much at all outside of football.
So by that simple statement, it implies to me that you should be ranking the town/city as a whole, and not just the environment around the school/campus.
At the end of the day I honestly couldn’t care less. I guess I was just making the point of how bad this ranking is, not just because of the results, but for a severe lack of basis or justification of it.

Poor Starkville. I was curious to see if anyone ranked below Starkville.

Columbia sucks... live in NWA and had to take my dog to the veterinary hospital at the college and that town is nothing special at all. Everything is kind of run down looking in my opinion.

I think Slidell actually has more dining options.

BR isn't really a college town like Oxford. By sec standards it's a relatively big city. I'd rank it middle of the road. Maybe slightly higher than 10.

Baton Rouge is terrible but I would rank it ahead of Gainesville

Don’t care. Gainesville, Tuscaloosa, Oxford and Auburn are awful.
Baton Rouge at least has great food.

Oxford is always a town that gets way too much love on this board. The grove is the most OVERRATED thing in sports along with the berm.
