So we will have 2 freshamn starting regardless of what happens with Newman. I think TQ is the only guard who will keep his starting spot, due to his size / length and D. But Johnny Jones loved him off the bench earlier this year, so who knows what happens with that. Patterson will come off the bench. Hornsby is the tricky 1. Great leader and had a fantastic season for us, but isn't on the level of Blakeney / Newman.

See I love the idea of blakeney being the 6th man and primary scoring guy off the bench. Also get a junior leader TQ out there who is a vocal experienced hard working guy with the starting unit.

If mickey comes back we will have elite talent elite depth and a decent amount of experience.

Thursday hurt but getting to the tourney teaching these guys the urgency of laying elite focused basketball for the full game will help next years team tremendously. I remember in 08 being a 8 seed and beating a 9 seed butler. That team went to the next two NCs.

Get real people even Kentucky Can't win with all true freshman

Who starts in the beginning of the year won't matter!! But I GUARANTEE before the year is over Blakeney will be in the starting lineup!! with the exception of Josh Gray, Blakeney is the only guard who can create his own shot(think Chris Jackson)!! Hornsby and Quarterman are solid and experienced but Blakeney is an exceptional scorer

Guys it will be hard to not have TQ or Hornsby in starting lineup regardless of who plays for us next year. They are proven veterans. You bring the young guys off bench to score and focus on scoring

That's 25 stars baby!

I'm pretty sure Mickey and Victor were only 4 stars, but 23 total is still an unbelievable starting line up.

I'd love so bad to have one of the M&M's come back just so Simmons can play some SF

since Mickey probably won't come back. Would go with a 3 guards, 2 forwards, no center starting lineup of:

Quarterman, Hornsby, Blakeney, Simmons, and Victor

That's why I think Robinson will be put into the starting role. If he can develop

That's a big if. That's why most likely best lineup would be 3 guards 2 forwards. All our best talent:
Quarterman, Hornsby, Blakeny, Simmons and Victor.

2 guards 3 forwards (when we need to go bigger):
Quarterman, Blakeny, Simmons, Victor, Epps (I think he develops)

or when we need a conventional lineup on the floor:
Patterson (true pg), Hornsby (SG), Simmons (SF), Victor (PF), Robinson (C)

lot of ways we could go depending on how certain players develop.

Players who you know will be good: Patterson, Quarterman, Hornsby, Blakeney, Simmons, and Victor

Players likely to develop into good players by next season: Gray, Bridgewater, and maybe Epps

Players that hopefully develop and contribute;
Robinson and Malone

My line up:
PG Quarterman
SG Keith Hornsby
SF Ben Simmons
PF (if he stays) Jordan Mickey
C Robertson (if he developes)

Mickey is a PF in name only.

He game is as a center. He cements himself in the paint to block shots and rebound and putback trash. He scores in the paint and is inconsistent beyond 5 feet. He does have some mobilty in transition, but that's not unprecedented for centers.

you honestly think we are starting 3 freshman who have never played D1 basketball before now and a transfer?

If you've ever seen games of Simmons, Newman, and Blakeney, you'd realize that these guys barely miss. And when I say barely miss, I mean there aren't crazy ill-timed way-off misses like has happened often with Gray, Quarterman, Patterson, and Hornsby where there are not any chances for put-backs. Simmons, Newman, and Blakeney are on another level. NBA shooting level.

If you've seen Victor's game, outside of his 14-foot shooting range and driving ability, part of his game is as a scrap rebounder for put-backs and slams which perfect for "barely-missed" shots. Teamed with Mickey's game of in-the-paint shot-blocks and rebounds, he and Victor are the ideal type of big men needed for success with this incoming class.

Back to your earlier question about starting 3 freshmen, yes, we can start 3 freshmen. Calipari does it routinely.

However, LSU wouldn't be starting "all" freshmen. Just 3 super ones. And I don't believe they would "start" right out of the gate, just not long after.

As to why Kentucky struggled? Offensive chemistry, not inexperience. Their games didn't compliment each others. It's one of the reasons why Chris Jackson, Stanley Roberts, Shaquille O'neal never won it all together. Their games just didn't mesh. A PG who needs to put up 35 every game with two 7-footers who both demand the ball in the paint is as ill-fit as Kentucky trying to work in 6 McDonald's All-Americans with the All-Americans from the year before that didn't leave.

Whereas, PG Newman, with classic SG Blakeney, with the most versatile SF in years in Simmons fit perfectly together. Add in the bigs in Victor and Mickey for the scraps, along with the returning upper classmen as the bench, and it's a recipe for a Championship.

That would be a great lineup with TQ and Blakeney off the bench!!! Just imagine if Josh Gray can play under control when attacking the rim!! Haven't given up on Malone just yet and hope Epps develops. Don't be surprised to see Blakeney emerge HE can create his own shot if we get stagnant

Theres still a lot of variables and depending on how guys play together but no matter what happens, I tend to lean towards this.

Blakeney has an unbelievable work ethic. Like borderline Kobe Bryant work ethic, so I'm excited to see what he will do.
