Shaq was hardly a scoring machine at LSU.

Assuming you mean men's college ball, Pistol Pete scored 69 for the #2 NCAA rank. It was beaten by Kevin Bradshaw, who scored 72 in a losing effort against Loyola in the highest-scoring game ever, 186-140.

Maravich broke 60 points four times, and got 68 as a pro.

No knock against the Pistol, but while looking I also found that Wilt Chamberlain scored > 60 points thirty two times in the pros. 6 of those were for over 70, and of course there was the 100 point game.

Also gotta remember there was no 3 point line back when pistol played. IMO if there were 3 point lines throw in an extra 12 points a game for the pistol.

I was implying no comparison with Pistol Pete, I just think it's an amazing stat line.
