It all makes more sense when you realize he’s not very good at his job.

I stopped watching because of the refs. IDK where they were from but they just did not like our brand of basketball. They called every touch foul known to man on us and then would let Syracuse play us physical.

I'm not the biggest basketball guy so maybe it was because Syracuse was doing little things like positioning themselves better to be able to be physical and not get the calls but from a layman's POV, it looked similar on both ends with only one team getting all the calls.

Then you add to that the fact that our Bball team isn't very talented and you get a blow out like we saw. They do give great effort so I will definitely tune in to watch them some more this season. Just frustrating.

One thing i have always preached when coaching youth basketball, don't ever come down the court and take a shot without making a pass, unless you took a wide open layup.

I pointed out yesterday to my kids as we were watching this abomination of a game, LSU came down the court at one point in the 2nd half and on 5 straight possessions they did not make a single pass. Guy that dribbled up the court took the shot without passing, 5 straight possessions. That's how you play losing basketball. It's one thing to do that when you set a pick and actually run some kind of set, but when you come down and simply go one on one or jack up a 3, that's just bad basketball.

Anyone who says LSU played terrible in first half last night didn't watch the game. The only thing terrible was the 3 point shooting. It was non existant. They were playing great defense and crashing the boards. they were dominating the offensive boards but had nothing to show for it because they couldn't throw it in the ocean. 11% from 3, That's not a coaching issue. That and the ridiculous unforced TO are what lost that game. They do not have a PG that is dependable yet. And Syracuse shot lights out from 3 in second half. That and their great PG play was the difference in the game.

For this particular game, no maybe not, but we aren't a good 3 point shooting team. we are 216th in the country at 32%.
You know who's worst at shooting 3's than us?

#4 UConn
#11 Gonzaga
#14 Texas A&M
#21 Mississippi State
#24 Illinois
UCLA who's two losses to top 10 teams are by a combined 6 points
Michigan State
Indiana
Wisconsin

a good coach doesn't let something like not being an elite 3 point shooting team prevent them from being successful. Of course 3 poitn shooting helps tremendously, and every team in entitled to a bad game shooting, but good teams find ways to win when they don't shoot well.

Will Wades 2019 SEC Championship team shot 32% from 3. What a familiar looking number. His 2020 SEC runnerup team also shot 32% from 3, and hey whattaya know, his 2022 SECT runnerup team shot 32% from 3.

Poor shooting like that is a byproduct of poor shot selection from poor offensive basketball. McMahon isn’t just an extremely limited Xs and Os coach, he maybe even worse when it comes to talent assessment, rotations and lineup combinations. This team is poorly coached at every level.

I agree with the coaching.
But, especially in the 1st half of the 11 3pt shots 7 or 8 of them were basically wide open.
We crashed the boards, kicked it out and threw up BRICKS. Especially Wright, he wasn't close.
1st half, Reed needed to touch the ball every possession. One in particular, Reed is wide open on the wing with a clear lane to the goal and Wright ball hogs and throws up a brick. The whole time, Reed is trying to get his attention to pass the ball.

The 3 guys that LSU needs to show up that didn't were Wright, Stewart and Baker. All 3 were beyond horrible last night.

The only bright spot was Reed, guy has progressed and would look even better with more competent players around him.

What good is it to kick out to a wide open guy for three if that guy sucks at threes? That’s called good defense.

I like how Reid is developing. Baker is a nice piece but if he’s our number 1 scoring option it’s gonna be a long, long, long season

Agreed, Nichols showed how to handle Baker - and if anyone saw that film - that option can be taken out by doing what they did.

Team is already handicapped without a PG and inability to rebound

There's a general lack of toughness on the inside, it's tough to overcome middling talent if you don't have that...I think the rebounding issues are a by-product of that....Hell Hannibal may be our best rebounder!!

That’s what everyone who thinks we can slowly build a team of upperclassmen fail to recognize. We will get poached long before that happens.

The only fact is that it’s not working. Whether it’s his coaching or the players not executing, it’s not working. He’s ultimately responsible for the roster and the execution of play.

You can throw out excuses that he took over a tough situation with no talented players, but there are other programs in the same boat that are much further along.

If you watch this team there are spurts of good play by certain players, but they’re always followed with equally bad spurts. Inconsistency is a defining trait of bad coaching. If they don’t show signs of improvement before we hit the halfway mark of the SEC schedule then you can probably see the writing on the wall for McMahon.
