Palmer has game breaking ability but seems to have stone hands. Lee looks like he could be a true asset as a strong possession receiver. It was exciting seeing the freshman, but it’s good to see Lee find a spot after moving him to seemingly 5-6 positions on the field.

Boutte
Bech
Smith (has earned more playing time, obvious skill upgrade here over Jenkins, Kirklin and Palmer and he is a freshman)
Thomas (has probably earned more playing time, most likely a skill set upgrade over Jenkins, Kirklin and Palmer)
Moore looks good but not great
Lee looks solid but probably is more of a slot guy, 2nd string slot.
Hilton ????

Jenkins, Kirklin, and Palmer to basically 2nd or 3rd string.

Nabers is the one, if he can show out... you have basically 3-4 legitimate threats on the field at one time even if a starter or two are out.

Time to play the freshmen as the juniors and seniors have had their chance.

Jenkins , Kirklin and Palmer had their chances. If you can’t hold onto the ball, you don’t play.

Yup. They kind of had their chance to shine, they're not horrible but if you want to win you have to upgrade.

Boutte and Bech are clear starters, and Smith has basically shown he has a high ceiling.

It comes down to Thomas and Nabers, the rest I think you can see where this goes.... Jenkins, Kirklin and Palmer to the end of the bench.

Top group:
Boutte, Bech and probably Smith

Need to show more:
Thomas and Nabers

Probably a solid 2nd/3rd string option
Moore, Lee, Hilton

Had their chance:
Jenkins, Kirklin, and Palmer.

Play the freshman, they appear to have a much higher ceiling.

Lee and Palmer are not good WRs and should be used as special team players only. I would add Kirklin and Jenkins to that list only special teams. Stick to the good WRs Boutte, Moore, Smith and all the freshman. Alabama plays their best 4 maybe 5 WRs only.

Lee looked really good last night. He gives us some size along with Thomas so I would like to see those 2 remain in the rotation even though we need to start limiting the rotation a bit as we get into conference play. Rotating 9 different receivers seems to not really help the offense.

Everything D Smith does looks so natural. Very smooth runner with the ball with wiggle like JJets had. Very natural catching the ball. Palmer is so fast but he seems to lack some of the flexibility and hand/eye coordination that Smith really showed. Palmer looks like a track guy learning to play football. Actually Palmer was an all state safety in HS as well, I always thought it would be fun to see him play defense. Like the idea of a safety with elite speed and range.

He has never shown game breaking ability.

Lee will be 2nd or 3rd stringer, I thought he played well last night but limited ceiling.

1. Boutte
2. Bech
3. Smith (has potentially shown a very high ceiling, and has earned more playing time)
4. Thomas (has potentially shown the same)
5. Moore (decent but not as high ceiling)
6. Nabers is the one we need more film on...
7. Hilton hasn't shown much but no worse than Palmer, Kirklin or Jenkins

Play the freshmen.

What do you call a WR that can’t catch the ball? A DB!

Palmer needs to try his hand at being a DB. If he has any hope of playing at the next level, it will be at a different position. The only reason he has had the early opportunity he has been given is because of seniority. I see that Coach O does that with a lot of these kids. Plain and simple, the best players should play.

I think some of you are selling Lee very short. He was a stand-out athlete coming out of HS and he and BTJ are the only guys we have with real size. Nabors is the only other guy who plays big and physical (according to recruiting and practice reports).

We really don’t know what we have here yet for this season, especially with as little as we have seen of BTJ, Nabors or Hilton so far. Any snap judgements on who is better after a handful of plays is just message board talk. We don’t really know how a lot of these young and new guys stack up head to head yet. By the UF game, we will have a better idea of who the coaches favor and I’m betting the rotation gets tighter. That said, I think the broader rotation is O’s attempt to keep some of these guys from hitting the portal this off-season. At least the young ones.

Everyone is also forgetting Alex Adams in these lists. I don’t remember if he was hurt last year or just redshirted, but he should also be considered a freshman WR this year. He hasn’t played much and maybe he’s just getting passed up by this year’s class, but he wasn’t chopped liver as a recruit.

Not a knock on Nabors but Smith has 2" and 10 lbs on him.

You’re 100% right. It’s weird too because he did the exact opposite when he took over for Les.

They’ve given Palmer a fair shot at WR.

These younger players are going to be hard to keep off the field.

I concur and I like the fact that he is a big bodied receiver.

How can a guy have stone hands and be our season starting punt returner?
