Big Unit, 2002: 77
Schilling, 2001: 72
Scherzer, 2018: 71
Scherzer, 2016: 70
David Price, 2014: 68
Scherzer, 2015: 67
Pedro, 1997: 67
Big Unit, 1999: 64
KEVIN GAUSMAN, 2021: 63
Scherzer, 2017: 63
Big Unit, 1993: 63

Not to take away from the stat or how great of a season he had, but MLB players are striking out at the highest rate in baseball history. I'm honestly surprised it didn't happen for multiple pitchers this season.

But not "3" pitch strikeouts. Only pitchers with overpowering stuff do that.

I do not believe your stat and the OP's stat are equivalent. The fact that batters are striking out at a record high rate does not necessarily equate to a pitcher striking a batter out with 3 consecutive pitches. Based on the post, Gausman had the most 3 pitch strikeouts this season so regardless of the strikeout rate, he was the best. Nothing is taken away from Gausman.

More strikeouts league-wide means there's more opportunity for 3 pitch strikeouts is all I was saying

Ya I think it’s more about pounding the zone than overall strikeouts.

It means he’s got a wipeout pitch he’s getting over for a called strike or a swing and miss after two other zone pitches.
