It makes total sense to not hit him the day after he pitches and to only hit him in 1 midweek game.

But the prior poster said what if our staff was good enough that we could save him to pitch Sunday, then maybe he could DH Fri and Sat?

This is what someone in the baseball program told Hunt Palmer, they could deviate from it but thats supposedly the plan to pitch him Friday and hit Sunday and mid week taking off Saturday completely.

I'm sure part of getting Skenes here the first place was selling him on that Friday night role being a premier pitcher on SEC Friday nights. On top of that, it has to be a huge plus to him to only face Sunday SEC pitching and mid-week pitching as a DH...frankly, it's a nice stat inflator than having to hit on say Friday night if he pitches Saturday or something.

We are deep enough at DH I think we can absorb him missing Friday and Saturdays at DH, although if he's clearly the best DH by a long shot then it would technically be more beneficial to the team if he hit friday or saturday instead against better pitching...just doesnt seem like they want to move from from Friday night pitching.

This team has a ton of DH options between Jobert (lefty), Dugas if he doesnt win 2B job, Guidry if he doesnt start in field, Beloso (lefty), Travinski, Neal (lefty) if Milazzo starts at C, Jones...I mean so many ways we can go there

Definitely hitting the ball astronomically better than offseason last year.

I was cumulating the stats last spring before bay tiger started, he hit .342/.439/.457 last spring before falling off when the weather warmed. He did very well during the same session this year.

Milazzo is not hitting .235 unless he has made major improvements. Neal will be your starting catcher most of the season. Way more power and from the left side.

With the rest of the lineup the way it is, offense at the catcher position will not be a priority. Neal will play and so will Milazzo. Travinski will also get his fair share of games behind the plate.

The most important part is that your catcher can manage the pitching staff that will be really good. Basically how the Astros are with Maldonado behind the plate.

If Neal defense is descent he starts 2/3 of the games at catcher. Johnson is offense over defense coach and Likes lefties in the line up.

These are my unrealistic predictions for the season. I am aware that these numbers for everyone across the board is most likely not going to happen but I feel like each player is capable of those stat lines.

I did some projections for Dugas, Thompson, Crews, and Morgan.

.
Crews - 350/.453/.693 25 HRs
Morgan - .341/.436/.530 10 HRs
Thompson - .304/.413/.488 10 HRs
Dugas - .299/.489/.693 14 HRs

I started with career numbers and expected plate appearances, factored in BB% and K%. It's still mostly just pulled out of my arse, but some of my numbers are pretty close to your stuff.

Milazzo should be a late inning replacement only.

My skepticism with Neal defensively is that he is still young and the pitching staff will be very good with nasty stuff. Have to remember he should be a senior in high school this year. Will have to have a catcher behind the plate that they can trust.

I didn't get a chance to see any fall scrimmages in person to see what he looks like. Reports were that he improved as the fall progressed. If he can handle the staff behind the plate then I am absolutely all for him getting the job because as yall said he is better than Milazzo at the plate already.

While young, Neal is ahead of curve so to speak on catching high level pitchers and handling velocity coming from IMG. I know it's still a jump, I think he's going to be leaned on this year.

I do think when we absolutely need receiving/framing/defense it's going to be Milazzo though. And that means a lot of SEC friday nights.

Travinski also seems to be forgotten about. We have never seen what he is capable of if fully healthy. If healthy, he might factor into the equation as well.

He has been catching pitchers that are in the MLB/college for the last 3 years at IMG academy. He hasn't been catching at your run of the mill high school. From what I saw in the fall he has just as good of an arm/pop time as millazzo but millazzo blocks the ball a lil better. No need in having an automatic out in lineup unless he is miles better at defense

He's got waffle irons for hands though. He'll play, but he's bat first. Jay said at some point that we'll probably see 4 catchers start the first 4 games.

Like I said, I didn't get the chance to get out in the fall to see in person. If that is the case then I'm with you 100%. I know he was at IMG catching big time arms, but that still has to be a gap between that and the arms that he will be catching this season.

Best case scenario is that he is better defensively than we think and Milazzo hits better than we think and they can give each other relief behind the plate so both stay fresh all season. I'm thinking that could be what happens.

If we can complete the routine 6-3, we’ll be tough to beat.

I'm going to put this in my write up but Milazzo gives you a premier defender that will be needed the first three weekends of SEC play.

If Neal is starting on the road at A&M then he's going to need to secure the spot pretty early in non conference.

With that being said I still think Neal will eventually win the job sometime this year.

That may very well be what happens then if an insider is saying it, but Id much rather him bat two games in the weekend somehow. Dont care about him batting in midweek games.

It's not about getting the at bats in 2 games. It's about the rest the day after pitching for his body to recover. Saturday off and hitting on Sunday and midweek will be the best scenario for his health and keeping him fresh toward the end of the season. That is priority. Also to keep him healthy for his own personal situation with the draft. He will be a first rounder because of what he can do on the mound.

Also, psychologically think about the pressure you're putting on the opponent on Sunday knowing that they have to face Hurd on the mound and then another premium bat they haven't seen yet.

If lsu is as good as people think, Skenes hitting in the lineup will be a luxury, not a necessity. They will have guys to pick up the slack
