Hard to get hits when pitchers cant throw strikes. Thats a crazy number of walks in 7 innings. Really surprised by some of those names allowing some of those walk totals. Maybe the pitchers were working on secondary stuff though. Hard to say without seeing it

It’s still early, but I sure hope this was the case.

I know it’s early but…

24 walks by Tiger pitching?

Jesus.

Pitching is what you need to ramp up
It’s a long season
They haven’t thrown live to batters since end of fall
I’m sure they are not out there trying to max velocity yet

Really hope Jay starts bringing in the pitchers that Vandy, Florida, and Arky get. Hell even Georgia and Auburn to a degree...

How did MS State not make your pitching wish list

Just looking at the numbers, and knowing this staff emphasized throwing strikes, I think it is obvious they were working on something with the pitchers.

As for big arms, we are definitely behind other programs. I read that even Dallas Baptist can roll out a dozen arms throwing 95+. I believe Johnson and his staff realized that as well when they did their initial analysis of the team. Why the previous staff didn't address it, is pretty sad actually.

We were not only lacking big arms, but lefties as well. Johnson brought in Reyzelman, Shaffer, Cooper and did what he could this year. Next year is when you will really see the lack of big arms being addressed. Johnson has signed guys like Noot, Shores, 3 JUCO righties that can throw upper 90's, all big arms. Big arms, big guys and plenty of lefties coming in the next two classes.

This year we have to hope we are prepared enough, competitive enough and hit enough to win games. Next year 2023 we will have the arms and I think we will be a top 3 team.

So much yikes in this stat line. Come on pitchers. Let them swing.

Another thing with all the walks was wild pitches and passed balls. McManus really struggled blocking balls from Coleman. The 1st few innings had at least 4 or 5 that got to the back stop.

Looks like Crews was trying to do too much and swung at some bad pitches. 7 walks between 1-3, 0 walks for him.

Coleman was all over the place at times but you’re right that’s not going to be acceptable in any way

If I’m scoring those, they were passed balls. Every pitch should have been handled. Had at least 6 PB. It was just a bad scrimmage overall. Friday wasn’t much better

Thanks for posting this. It does help explain how so many runs were scored with so few hits.

Hopefully Coleman can figure out whatever he did at the end of last year. Dude looked like a first round pick at the end of the year. It’s so hard to tell if someone can recreate that momentum.

I’m hoping it was mostly because of the weather. It was pretty windy and cold. Maybe just had a bad outing. It also seemed like they were throwing more breaking balls than they normally would
