FWIW, I think they're being extra cautious with Hurd, Little, and Noot. Those could be 3 huge arms for us in the spring, when it really matters. And, to my knowledge, they didn't throw much this summer so they're behind schedule...even if pretty healthy. Guys like Skenes and Taylor threw alot this summer, and probably had a deload and are back on a higher starting point for ramp up now.
Hurd, Little, and Noot will slowly ramp up now, deload some during break, then be ready for a higher starting ramp up in the spring...assuming they're pretty healthy.

As some have said previously, if the season started this weekend this would be my weekend rotation. Fri. Skenes Sat. Taylor Sun. Floyd Hurd coming along could get one of those spots.
I think this team is going to be their best if Hurd can work his way back to be the Friday starter. I say that not only for the obvious reason that having two Friday caliber starters is better than one, but because of the implications for Skenes’ presence in the batting order. If everyone is correct that Skenes won’t bat when he’s pitching, then it’s not ideal having one of the team’s best hitters out of the lineup going up against the other team’s ace on Fridays. It sets up better to have his absence come on Sundays against a lesser starter.

Listening to Jay, Hurd is a weekend starter
Sounds like he loves Taylor too & would suspect he is another weekend guy as of now
Floyd perhaps to Reyzelman role. “High leverage innings guy”.
Shores “future Friday night guy” & most college-ready freshmen. Imo could jump into weekend role with an injury
Agree with Carl that he isn’t much of a Dugas guy. Hunt asks him and he basically says in so many words “bad pitch selection, swings & misses too much, and not very good at 2B (can make the routine plays -Jay). Says thinks we are in good shape in the infield “with Jordan, Guidry, tanks, and Jack is having a good fall too”.

I agree with all of this if Hurd can get to the Friday role and be healthy. If not then you have to have Skenes in the Friday night spot. I'd rather have his bat absent on Friday night with the rest of the lineup than his arm absent when it is Friday night caliber.

Posted this on the recruiting thread but figure I put it in here too.
Prospect Live came out with a 2023 Top 200 MLB Draft list. I know it is really early but it will give an idea on the recruits that are getting a lot of attention early.
Prospect Live 2023 MLB Draft Top 200 (Bold incoming recruits)
Dylan Crews - 2
Paul Skenes - 13
Blake Mitchell - 23
Tre Morgan - 35
Grant Taylor - 89
Christian Little - 92
Steven Milam - 135
Ty Floyd - 138
Blake Money - 155
MJ Seo - 173

Yes, agreed. That’s what I meant by Hurd working his way back that he would also be back to Friday caliber. If he doesn’t get back to that level, then absolutely Skenes needs to take the role.

I think if they think he’s the best pitcher, he will get the ball on Friday

I don't know if we get both of these guys to campus, but I really hope we do. People on this board will shite their pants about short guys, but both of them can absolutely pick it and I believe they've played MIF together in some travel/showcase scenarios.

Ultimately I think Seo pitches

Really hope Milam can get here. Everything you mentioned and his swing from the left side is smooth with some sneaky pop for his size.

I think Seo could be a true 2-way guy. He's silky in the IF, hits well, and super dirty on the mound. Just a truly advanced kid. He and Guidry could me MIF mates and both pitch.

Seo isn't tiny. I think he'll inevitably be around 6' when he gets here. Milam is tiny, but loud bat that will make you forget he's that small. Mike Fontenot-ish.

I think he could play 2B or 3B. And I thinks he’s done growing. He looks about 5’9”-5’10”. Doesn’t matter, he has a bazooka

My assumption is that at 100% Hurd is a comparable pitcher. If they are 1A and 1B, then Hurd on the mound and Skenes at DH gives them a better shot than Skenes on the mound and a lesser hitter at DH. I think it comes down to whether the difference between Skenes and Hurd is greater or if the difference between Skenes and an alternate DH is greater. Even if Skenes is a little better on the mound, losing his bat could more than offset that.
