Yes but they limited themselves to choosing from just 20 options for regional hosts a few weeks ago because of COVID. At least ODU gets to play a 4-seed in their first game this way.

If Marceaux gets any kind of run support they can beat any 2 seed anywhere.

I disagree. Everyone is rested. We can get 5 innings out of both Coleman and Edwards. Of course Fontenot is the closer. If we can get 6/7 innings out of Marceaux and Hilliard (very likely) then Labas hopefully gives us something. We can certainly get an inning or two out of Vietmeier, Floyd and George. Thats enough innings for 4 games and maybe 5 depending on how Labas does.

I think Labas was in desperate need of a week off to rest. I think he’ll surprise some people in the postseason if he gets the chance.

His other key is getting a generous ump.
One thing I’ve noticed in some of his recent starts (also noted on ESPN radio, but can’t remember who) he has been getting squeezed on the zone. He needs an ump that will give him the outside black or just a hair off to be successful. When he’s not getting that call, which has been the case of late, then he becomes a lot more limited since he can’t just overpower hitters.

He’s got to give the ump a reason not to squeeze him. Lately he hasn’t been able to spot up so he doesn’t get the benefit of the doubt on the corners of even when he hits them. You’re not going to get the corners when you’re struggling to find the zone. It’s fricked up but that’s what it is.

Not necessarily.
I think winning the first 2 is definitely key; but if they play Tech in championship and lose the first one, then there is still more than a reasonable opportunity to win the rematch. By that point, Tech would be on the same quality of pitching level they threw in midweek games against LSU twice this year and lost.

I don’t disagree with you that that’s how baseball is; but, I have seen Labas hit that spot early on in games recently and not get the call, forcing him to have throw a little more over the fat part of the plate.
