We SHOULD have smashed the ball on Sunday! We were playing Nichols. This series is a great idea of what these guys can do against D-1 pitching. this is what they will face in the SEC

So even another 0/3, where’s the guy saying Hughes is hitting good overall in preseason?

Please drop the Hughes obsession.

7 guys went 0-3 including Cabrera, but you single out Hughes.

Ps. I’m not even really defending Hughes so much as I’m just tired of hearing all the bitching about him.

True.

Every year if the pitching does well then the hitting is fricked.

If the hitting does well then the pitching is fricked.

end of sarcasm

Does anyone know the answer to these speculations:
When will Arnold be back?
Why would B Doughty be at SS? Is Hughes the only option?
Will Dugas get a shot at all at infield?
Cranford is a GREAT glove... will he get an equal shot in the infield?

I think he has a broken rib. Not sure how long that takes to fully recover from.

Probably because we needed another SS for the scrimmage.

Arnold, C. Doughty, Mathis would probably all he next in line. Doughty and Mathis might be a significant drop off defensively, which is why you probably haven't seen it much.

Doesn't really look like it. He's been at first base in some scrimmages. Either the staff is 100% certain he can handle second, so they don't feel they need to put him there OR they don't feel he is an infielder.

Don't recall him being in the infield much during scrimmages. Could be wrong though, because I don't remember much about him.

I agree. The Hughes narrative is really old. We all know what he is and isn't. I would think as Tiger fans we would support our players.

He's going to be a 2B or LF. They're trying to get him comfortable in the outfield in case he's needed, honestly he's one of the best athletes on this team and so he'll be a plug and play guy.

Until he hits with consistency he'll be a backup at this time.

Cranford is still recovering from Tommy John. Since he can’t throw full go, that’s probably why his positions were limited.

Cranford has played quite a bit at 2b. I believe Mainieri really wants C Doughty to blossom there but Cade has not taken the bull by the horns just yet. The competition between those two has been close so far.

Maybe I wasn't paying enough attention. I seem to remember Biggs being at second more often.

Dugas is interesting to me as well. Outfield is crowded. Infield is crowded. It will be interesting to see where he winds up.

You watch baseball much?
If our guys had hit 4 or 5 HRs yesterday he'd be on here saying our pitching stinks.

It's what he does.....

This is going to be a lineup with a lot of moving parts. Not expecting much to be set in stone until very very late in the season. The only fixtures you will see is Beloso at first and Cabrera in RF/CF.

Ok. Then what about the other scrimmages where we did smash the ball against D-1 pitching? Will you tell us next that our pitching sucks?

There were points last season where we didn't smash it versus Nichols.

Alot of power between

Cabrera, Garza, Beloso, Willis, Bianco, Travinski, Doughty

I'm hoping the athletes Dugas, DiGicacomo, Hughes, and Toups step up because speed will be needed somewhere.

Edit: Now that I look at it, if LSU is somehow able to hold onto Garza for his senior year and Henry for his junior year in 2021 then LSU will have one of the deepest teams they've had in quite some time.

I think you're pissin' in the wind on that one.

But I think we are expecting to lose Garza and Romo to the draft, so we will need another catcher in the 20 class. We are looking at least one JUCO option in Florida.

PM will be on the chopping block after another average year. I’ve seen this story for far too long.

I agree. We should definitely make a broad sweeping conclusion after one split squad scrimmage.
