For those that have seen him lately, whats the major issue with Berry at 3rd?
Arm accuracy? Where Morgan essentially HAS to be on 1st to account for wild throws...?
Arm strength?
Or is it more glove? Or lateral mobility?
Seems ALOT of our lineup decisions are going to hinge on whether Berry can play 3rd

From everything I have seen and read, it's a glove thing.

Berry is a really hard worker, so lets hope he can continue to develop at 3B. That will allow us to give someone else reps at DH.
Just based on the Fall, Berry is a below average 3B, Merrifield is an above average 3B. Merrifield can hit as well. Merrifield at 3B and Berry at DH is our strongest lineup and I think that is what you will see when it matters. A DH would have to be significally better than Merrifield offensively to sit Merrifield and put Berry at 3B.

Then would it not be better to move Morgan to CF...
and get Jobert or Beloso in the lineup at first?

I can see this playing out.

Doesn't have the best range and the glove hasn't really been consistent. He's probably a 1B or DH at the next level, he'll be drafted on bat alone.

I'm interested to see how Berry's career plays out (LSU and Pro). I think at some point he gets moved to 1B whether that's here or in the minors.

It's a shame what South Carolina has become.

sorry for muddying up your thread, wasn't worth it's own thread.

No, I want anyone to post any thoughts in this thread. Keeps everything together.

I don't like either of those options. You can put Jobert at 1B and Morgan at CF or you can put Jobert at RF and Morgan at 1B. Which one is the better option. For my money, I keep Morgan at 1B and put Jobert in the outfield.
You could put Morgan in the outfield and Beloso at 1B but that would shut the door on one of the many outfield options. If Beloso can is better offensively than Jobert, Drost, Pearson, Gio and Stevenson than it makes sense. As of now though, I think the best option is to keep Morgan at 1B and see which one of those guys emerge as the third outfielder.

Berry is a draft eligible sophomore, correct?
What’s the probability he comes back for his jr year if he spends most of this year as a DH?

I keep thinking in my head he was SS but that was just because he started there last year.

Yes he is, I'd say 0%. He is pretty much being drafted on his bat alone.

Yet we only have one championship during that span…

I know and he wasn't really great at either

Unless we put a back up catcher like Travinski, or a utility guy like Bianco there, Berry would be our only RHH hitting option at 1st base (as a switch hitter).
Morgan, Beloso, Leto, and Jobert are all LHH.

I'm interested to see where Cade hits in the order. I think he's going to rake, average and power. Jay seems to like him leading off but I can see him anywhere from 1-5. I think his athleticism will flash at 2B, too. At 3B, you just kinda catch the ball or it catches you. At 2B, you can use your instincts, angles, field agility, etc...and I think Cade has all the tools there. I expect to see some jaw dropping double plays in the middle.

I assume there's no shot of Berry being able to play 2nd? We know what we have in Doughty and Thompson on the left side.

No
He's at 3B to put him on that corner. There are much better defensive options up the middle.
I should rephrase that. I would much rather have Doughty at 2B than Berry at 2B.
