Jobert is definitely a more pure hitter than Beloso. I think Jobert took one up and in recently so let's see how he recovers from that mentally - getting hit above the shoulder with a #1 brainwashes some guys.

I really like the idea of Berry at 1B allowing Merrifield to play 3rd. Jobert to 1B is interesting. I agree I like his bat more than Beloso. I like Jobert to 1B if you are looking to get the most power in offensively.

What I saw from Beloso in the Fall was a lot of hits going to the Middle or pull side. Teams will shift on him. I like Drost, Pearson, Jobert all over Beloso right now.

If you put Jobert at first and leave Berry at third you are going with Jobert over Merrifield and I like Merrifield more than Jobert as overall player.

I need to break out the notebook and ink pen and start looking more deeply at RHH vs LHH and what lineups might look like with platooning.

Merrifield is the better defender absolutely...Jobert and Merrifield could have similar averages at the plate...but Jobert offers more pop.

If Merrifield is in the lineup it's going to be at 3B (but that's just my opinion). If Berry is DHing who would you slide to 1B if Morgan is in the outfield?

A crazy stat that surprised me

Morgan started every game here in 2021
Beloso started every game here in 2020

I feel like Beloso was a better hitter early in his career bc he sprayed it more. Drost was dead pull last year. Pearson pulls a ton. Jobert sprays more than they all do.

I really don't know Jay's hitting approach other than emphasizing pitch selection and loud contact. He may be fine with guys that are dead pull.

If I remember correctly, the last weekend of the Fall, Beloso hit some opposite field. Perhaps things were starting to click and will continue in the Spring.

Last year we spend half a year trying to find someone that could even field 3B before Doughty was put there. They never did figure out 2B. Do you remember Mainieri going with Safford at the end of the season, on a hunch.

This year it will be more of trying to figure what good player sits. Good problem to have. I hope they all get playing time. I think all the options could be productive.

I think Beloso had issues between the ears. Once he lost confidence, he got real jumpy...which made him dead pull. I don't think he's over-matched, even though it looked like it at times. He just needs to find what works, and trust it. You're stilling going to slump sometimes, but stick with it. He just lost it last year.

Drost was jumpy bc he felt over matched. Kind of expected from a freshman. He waved at so many deuces in the dirt, trying to cheat on fastballs. I hope he's evolved some, which I think is inevitable with a year under his belt.

Pearson is a freshman, but he's very relaxed, well traveled. I don't expect him to be overly jumpy. It will be an adjustment but he's good enough to catch up quick.

Jobert is practically a vet. He's seen good pitching at Nicholls and Delgado, and handled it well. He may have early season jitters but he won't be over matched.

How much time did Morgan get in OF during last week's scrimmages?
Morgan on defense at 1B saved our infielders last year
Johnson must have a reason he wants Morgan in OF
Will know soon enough if he sacrifices defense at 1B

Our highest potential lineup includes him in the OF so we can get more bats in at 1B and DH. Problem is we can't afford to do that unless our IFs get more accurate throwing to 1B. Beloso wasn't a bad defensive 1B. He actually made some good plays, but a guy like Morgan can quickly make anyone look bad. I'm sure some of the new guys can play a good enough 1B as well as long as the rest of the IF throws well

I don't think there is a scrimmage going on right now but the Data twitter feed just posted a Home Run graphic for Travinksi.

Everyone but Brady and Edwards pitched last weekend. I wonder if he's testing guys on short rest, before the cold swings in.

.I talked to Cade Beloso’s dad for quite a while last fall. He said Coach Johnson has done wonders with Cade’s mechanics at the plate and his hitting was much more consistent during fall ball. Hopefully, that will continue this spring.
