Cost efficiency. It's also part of the reason why NCAA scholarship allowances for the sport are so atrociously low.

Ironically, the tradition of the game as a part of American culture causes the NCAA not to want to do anything that might raise the necessary costs for running a program, because they don't want little bitty schools out in Nowhere U.S.A. to stop playing the game.

I mean, there are over 300 college programs that play Division I baseball, almost as many as basketball. Anybody who has ever taken long-distance baseball travel trips understands that it's not an easy thing to do. Baseball requires a lot of time and resources to do right.

So as long as they are bbcor certified then even composite ones can be used. Maybe our guys will try out the Easton omen that is certified. Have been wondering how good they were. I know last week all I really saw them using was the surge and the rival

It was pretty discouraging for the pitcher when a fastball with good run in on the hands got fisted into shallow left by a fig from Vanderbilt. Nice to know that shite is a thing of the past

Is the new bat thing supposed to be a "trial"? If so, who decides whether the bats stay or go?

I think this is a money thing. Some colleges have big money contracts with bat makers such as L.S. Easton and so on...

The old bats were like a bouncy trampoline, but the new BBCOR-approved bats are like the thick floors of the unused dining room at your grandparents’ house.

I just thought I read somewhere that the change was a "trial". And that the change would be evaluated at some point to see if it got the desired results.

But, I drink a lot...

I have no problem if they play like wooden bats.

however if they play worse, that's bad for the game. I don't know either way, just hopping its not too drastic

In High School, I think I was the only guy on the team that still used wooden bats. I loved the feel of the ball coming off.

If I were playing, I'd try using a wooden bat. Cheaper and equally effective. Also, cooler.

I really could not tell that much of a difference last weekend. Maybe over a course of a season, but there were a lot of well hit balls on saturday

what i dont understand is why they are still using metal/aluminum whatever it is. all of these guys have played in wood-bat leagues. make the switch.

money, money, money. wooden bats break a lot and cost money to replace.

This pretty much sums up my position, as I stated earlier. We'll see soon enough. It will be interesting.

The sound....YES....The feel......You obviously never played in cold weather or had a 90+ MPH fastball run in on ya'.

They aren't cheaper when you break one a week over the course of a season. They aren't NEARLY as effective. More significant than the way the ball jumps off an aluminum or composite bat compared to a wooden is the fact that the sweet spot is much, much larger.

Cool. I'm guessing you didn't see a heater on the fists......or you were a pitcher.
