Who are the guys on this year’s team that will start every game and only come out in lopsided contests? CJJ has spoken on this before, and it’s more of a nod to the players than a necessity. Even with all the early season tinkering, who starts and plays deep into every game? Crews/Morgan/Thompson were those guys in ‘22. And again in ‘23 joined by Tanks when healthy. Pure guess, but I think Tanks, Pearson, Braswell, and Bingham are the dudes this year. What say you?

What is the difference between this thread and the key players thread?

I would bet my bottom dollar Bingham and Braswell start every day barring some drastic change

What’s the same about it? Who CJJ gives this honor to hasn’t been discussed since last year.

This is baseball. The only reason that they will put someone else in is if they feel like they need a different bat matchup, or want a different runner in certain situations. Rarely is a coach making a defensive player change (outside of maybe catcher).

Interested to see what happens with Pearson; whether he's locked in at 2B or we see him in the OF. I think it depends on (1) his defensive play.. (2) competition b/t the second-baseman (Milam/Nippolt) and the other outfielders. I could see Milam pushing Pearson back to the OF.

A name not mentioned yet is Travinski. As long as healthy, he will be in the lineup everyday whether it be at C or DH.

Most likely.. There may be times when Millazo catches and Neal/Jones or someone else is DH

I don't think so. Travinski will be protecting Tommy White. If Neal needs to be in the lineup he will catch or DH and when Neal DHs, Travinski will be behind the plate.

Every time Nippolt played last year he was an auto out. I hope he has greatly improved hitting this year

To his credit, at least he made a lot of contact. Guess that’s better than being an auto K.

Nippolt is fine as a utility infielder, defensive sub, spot starter. Don’t see him getting many high leverage ABs this season, but he’s a good guy to have on the roster.

The spots with the most flux will be 2nd base, 1st base, catcher, and RF.

The other spots are pretty much locked up.

SS Braswell
LF Bingham

I think Brown's gonna be in the lineup just about every day. He may move positions a bit depending on the other guys, but I'd be surprised if he's not an every day guy all year barring injury.

Nippolt

He's capable. I think he'll just be our veteran utility guy. I expect him to play all over the infield when needed.

Travinski DH/C
Braswell SS
White 3B
Kling CF
Bingham LF
Jones 1B

With that said, Crews, Thompson, White, & Morgan were the only opening day starters last year to start in the CWS final. Nippolt, Kling, Jobert, Jones, & Neal were all opening day starters last year that didn't start by the end of the season (injury or otherwise)

Pearson

I think Pearson is great, but I think he is a solid player who plays up in big moments. I think he is more of a utility player, and as such won't play every day. I think the hope is that Jake Brown is the starting RF, leaving Pearson to battle Milam for the 2nd base spot, and Pearson is no guarantee to win that spot.

Again, Pearson is a great guy to have on the team, and he has a history of making clutch plays, but overall, he doesn't hit for enough average or power to be a superstar. Like last year, I think he may sit for a bit while CJJ let's some of the new guys feel their oats. If they don't produce, like Jones, or they are injured like Kling, Pearson is a fantastic option to plug and play.
