Posted that in the game thread. One of my silver linings.

We are not bashing the young man, but there is no way that this year's Bugg should have been in the game in that situation. What was Coach thinking?

Think he is hard headed enough to think Bugg was gonna just come out of it. Like the last 8 outings didn't happen, or he would just figure it out. On the mound. In a 1 run SEC game.

He's still going on "feel".

After Valek's win last weekend, PM made an interesting comment in the post game interview. Said they all knew he could pitch so well because he'd been pitching so well for 4 weeks.

Well, doesn't it work the opposite way, too? Bugg was pitching bad for 4 weeks. Doesn't that tell you something? And even after that, you still threw him today?

What's odd was how numb I've gotten to PM's decisions. I pretended to freak out in the game thread, but I was sitting here calmly shaking my head. I'm just not even shocked anymore.

I was pretty confident Bugg was gonna walk, balk, hit a batter. Best case, a liner right at someone, or hard groundball double play. But that was unlikely.

I thought he was going to hit the first batter he faced.

Bugg is automatic for one walk per appearance. It would be interesting to see if Mainieri/ Dunn could work him into a 1 batter matchup guy. Try and limit his exposure to limit his mistakes. If he can be a ground ball pitcher he could have some usefulness this year. That's the best case scenario for Bugg this year.

Eta: So it probably won't happen and they'll continue to use him as a typical relief pitcher.

Like Devall. Who gets shelled when he pitches too much. But against one or two lefties he is solid.

Then you have to believe Lange will suck. He has all year.

Except he hasn't. Has he struggled? No one could deny that. But sucked? All year?

No.

Like others said, maybe he needs to work it out to get back to his prior form, but not in a 1 run SEC game. How many hit batters does he have?

6 IP of shutout ball last week bro. He's struggled locating, but he hasn't been as awful as everyone is suggesting.

Bugg is not a consistent enough pitcher to see regular SEC action. I can't find the value in Pap at all.

If I remember correctly, Lange only gave up 3 hits through 6 innings last weekend, then all hell broke loose in the 7th.

Started strong too. 1 hit; 9 K vs Cinci.
Struggled vs Sac St. 6 hits; 3 BBs; 3 ERs
Struggled vs Fordham 8 hits; 3 BBs; 5 ERs
Struggled vs Ball St. 5 hits; 4 BBs; 3 ERs
Better vs Bama

Control has been his problem. Not his stuff or his velocity. Both are still just as good as ever. He just needs to relax and feel that motion he can repeat again and again without thinking about it.
