This is the best thread going right now. Actually therapeutic looking to who we have coming back and the new faces.

Agreed!

I'm not seeing a whole lot of focus on Stortz, just looking at his numbers he seems really legit.

Not to mention that Brooklyn swag he'll bring to the Box.

Cabrera was recruited to take Deichmann's place in RF, IMO. If he does not work out there then perhaps Breaux can improve his bat and win the job. His speed would give us the fastest outfield ever at LSU. Bryce Adams could figure in if no one else steps up.

I know everyone keeps saying "2019 is the year....we'll should be happy if we host a regional in 18" but as I look at that lineup, I honestly think we have more pure talent than we did this year.

You've got 4 guys in the lineup who were vital to what we did this year in Smith, Watson, Duplantis, and Slaughter.

Then several role players who we know will bring about positive production in the Jordans, Coomes, and Reid.

The only real question mark is finding the 3rd pitcher. Walker has what it takes to replace Lange and Gilbert/Hess can be as good as Poche. You just need someone capable of being Walker this year.

IMO, FWIW

I agree and Walker may be the most important player next year. Here's to hoping he won't need TJ surgery.

I havent seen much in regards to his diagnoses, but what makes you think this?? Thought it was a forearm tightness issue, not elbow?

Adam, I was downvoted like crazy for suggesting to keep Hess in the Pen next year, do you feel like we have a closer similar to Rick Greene or Barry Manuel for 2018(a Shutdown Closer)?

Sometimes it starts as pain on the inside of elbow and any sort of numbness around that area. I'm glad LSU shut him down when they did and didn't bring him back, I'm not saying he has it I'm saying I hope it's only forearm tightness or a severe muscle strain.

The only way I would be open to leaving Hess in the pen is if LSU has 3 lock down starters by SEC play and they feel comfortable bringing him into late game situations and closing knowing he'll only be able to go maybe twice a week max.

However if LSU does not then he needs to start, in college you want your best arms throwing as many innings as they can.

Hess will be the most electric arm on the staff next year and you'd rather him throwing 6-7 innings once a week rather than 2 innings twice a week if that means more wins for your ball club.

Plus, the Taylor Petersen kid from the JUCO in Arizona has the makings of a really, really good closer for us. A 92-93 mph fastball and a wipeout bender from the left side, and those numbers - 62 strikeouts in 35 innings. Don't be surprised if he turns out to be the guy who nails that job down.

Literally the same stuff was said about Hunter Kiel.

Hunter Kiel had a 97 mph fastball, pitches from the right side and had a 4-something ERA compared to Petersen's 1.27, and Kiel also walked a batter per inning.

So, no.

The stuff about the wipeout slider, fastball and being the closer.

So... yes.
