So I've been mentioning this on several posts for a few days now. Prior to the Ohio state game last year Bama's run defense was giving up 2.81 ypc and this year they are giving up 2.6 ypc. From Bama fans' mouth and the ridiculous no research people of the media, Bama's front 7 is the thing of nightmares this year and Bama will slow Fournette down forcing Harris to throw. What I looked up just right there shows that their run defense "improvement" is marginal at best.

Well I just dug a bit deeper and here is what I have uncovered.

When you remove the sack yardage from the actual rushing total, they give up 3.67 ypc this year. That is 8th in the country and impressive, but how did they fair last year? When you remove the sack yardage, prior to the Ohio State game mind you, they only gave up 3.5 ypc.

Yards Per Play 2015

2014 Bama Sacks Per Game

2014 Bama Rush Defense Per Game

Their pass rush has improved greatly (31 sacks in 14 games last year, 27 sacks in 8 games this year), but that's it! Their actual run defense is just slightly worse. Keep in mind that last year's totals included LSU, Auburn, and Miss St which were 3 teams in the top 25 of rush offenses. Not to mention Arkansas as the 26th ranked rush offense, and not to mention how they were destroyed by Ohio State's powerful rush offense.

Bama has played one team in the top 25 in rush offense this year and minus the sacks, they allowed 5 yards per carry.

LSU is ranked #1 in yards per carry when you remove the sack yardage, as you can see in the 1st link.

So I'm saying, don't be surprised when LSU runs on Bama like they did on Florida, just realize that it was inevitable.

Leon the Professional is enjoying the quiet moment before the storm. Then he is going to Tuscaloosa and taking EVERYONE with him.

Very good post Datbayoubengal. I think LF gets his 150 plus as well. JD Moore being back is big.

I agree with this just based on the eye-ball test.

I believe the only way LSU loses if we commit turnovers and penalties. We play a clean game, LSU takes this one home.

solid post OP.

I wouldn't say they are overrated, though. You qualified your statement so I don't think you actually meant to be inflammatory.

you gave them proper respect other than the subject line.

unless we telegraph every play that we're running they will not be able to stop the run game. they are banking on the front 7 to keep LF7 from getting into the secondary. Florida was dependent on their safeties to stop fournette and they did a pretty good job. that's not, imho, the game bama wants to play.

I would. Even if they get pass LSU and make the playoff OSU will stomp their arse again because they aren't what you are being sold. I've played close attention to OSU and Bama and the outcome would be the same as last year. That being said, I think LSU OL is better than OSU.

I've been saying they haven't faced an offense of this caliber.

Georgia was never even that good, they were over hyped due to beating inferior teams.

This is a weird season for sure. I feel more confident in the offense than the defense. Yes it is similar to 2013 in a way, but the reality was the LSU D was ranked higher nationally and in the SEC than the LSU O. I realize most of you don't agree with facts.

I am actually pleased with the new D coaching hires so far and their recruiting abilities should alleviate the depth concerns by 2017, if not 2016. However with White "gimpy" and Mills and Loc coming off injuries, I have some concerns.

I'm confident we'll be able to move the ball between the 20s, primarily by running the ball and passing off play action.

Our ability to score and our ability to contain Bamas's run defense will be keys to the game. If we can score touchdowns, particularly early and force them to pass, I think we win the game - not necessarily comfortably, but comfortably enough. 27-20
