Um, Sammy Martin by far. I can't think of any other player that went bald while a tiger. He looked so much older than his age because of it.

everybody keeps talking about art cantrelle. What's the story on this guy? He's before my time.

So far I've read his brother tied him to trees in a swamp overnight to toughen him up. Any other anecdotes?

Art was just a tough mean arse coonass who loved to fight, did it on a nightly bases, and was VERY good at it. He was a fullback, and could kick every players arse on the team at the time, including linemen. NOBODY messed with him. The football team used to go out and get drunk on a nightly bases, remember drinking age was 18 back then. He would be in Jail today if he did that shite today.

Darrell Williams used to like to throw down. I heard he got a job bouncing at one of the Tigerland bars (The Tiger I think) because he could beat the shite out of people legally.

There is only one answer to this question:

Gary "Mike" Jones

He was a defensive end in the late 70's. After LSU he joined the Army and became a Green Beret. He eventually reached the rank of Major General (two-star) and was the commanding general of the US Army Special Forces Command. I would not want to trifle with him.

Art Cantrell is # 1-5, no contest. Ask any BR police officer from that time period. Whenever the substation by the Keg would get a call bout Cantrell being on a rampage, the first call out was to "all officers in the area." He was in one of his crazy moods at the Keg one nite, losing at pinball, and when he started raising hell & the cops showed up, he picked UP the pinball machine & tossed it at the cops. No one would dare room with him in Broussard Hall. Most of the nominations listed here were badasses on the field/court. Cantrell WAS a badass all the time. Still is.

I've heard the same on Cantrelle also. Another guy that used to get into it on occassions was Eric Hill. I know he is respectable car dealership owner now, but my brother used to bartend at the Bengal in the later eighties and told of serious fight involving mainly Eric Hill. He was a badass, and now is kickin arse in business, great story for him.

Art Cantrelle takes the honors.
I am partial to Andolsek, but the Art people were damn compelling.
