Their record isn’t sexy. But you can’t deny the turn around in attitude and effort of the players and coaches this year. I think many fans just look at the box score and assume it’s just the same ole basketball team. We are 100% getting season tickets.

You are correct. But our season is going to be tough when we get into SEC play. It is unlikely we'll win more than 5-6 SEC games.

You are also correct, but what was your expectations going into this year? If the players and coaches care, they’ll steal a few games they wouldn’t have won last year.

Yep, the SEC is a good as it's been in 10 years, so 5-6 wins is a possibility. But I'm hoping the return of Sampson will help on many levels and that maybe we can scratch out 7-8. I think that's the ceiling though. Any more than that would be a significant overachievement.

I don't mean to quash any excitement about our MBB team. I am a longtime season ticket holder and big Will Wade fan. I am at every home game. I am excited about the future of LSUMBB. It's just a mistake to think that, after a big win, we have turned the corner and will have a plus SEC record.

I don't think you have. I think most of us realize where we are but can still see we are headed in the right direction.

I think we'll win a couple we shouldn't and stumble a couple of more times in games like today that we probably should win. But to me it's obvious the direction is positive for the program and there is much genuine hope for the future.

I agree. I watched most of the game including the entire 2nd half. I really didn't look at this game like "Powerful SEC school vs. Mid Major" and we were supposed to crush these guys (like LSU vs. Troy). I watched it as a fan who has been bored (it that's the right term) with LSU basketball for the past 4+ years and I was just glad to see some excitement. That last few minutes of back and forth was great! Those three pointers back and forth down the stretch by both teams were exciting. We missed an (off balanced) lay up at the end to come up short. No big deal. Guys know now they have to put away teams when their top 3 scorers are out of the game. Wade coached until the last second. I'm just glad to see a bright future.

Outside of the Michigan and Houston games, the team has given very little effort on defense.

That’s not true at all. They’re not great defensively, but they put forth more effort than any LSU team in the last 5 Years.

What are you basing that on? Will Wade has even been pissed at the defensive effort in multiple games this season. Excluding the Houston and Michigan games, we haven't out hustled teams for loose balls and have given the other team wide open 3s and layups because we stand around and are not active on defense.

Agree. They are definitely better. I cannot wait until Reid, Smart and Co come next year. Length and the ability to defend.

Fans look for what they want to see and in this case that's improvement from last season. I understand it. I'm the same way. But the raw data doesn't bear out your statement. LSU is in the bottom 1/3 or 1/4 of the NATION in just about every meaningful defensive category. They are the worst defensive team in the SEC by a significant margin. They are on pace to be worse defensively than they were last season. That's not opinion. That's fact backed up by raw data.

SFA came into yesterday's game in the bottom 1/3 of the country in offensive efficiency. Yet, vs LSU, on the road, and without their leading scorer for the whole second half, they shot nearly 50% from the field. It isn't just great offensive teams like Norte Dame who are scoring at will vs LSU. It's every opponent.

Yes, Will Wade has done a great job fixing the attitude of the players. Just wish he would have been here to run Ben Simmons arse off.

Attitude and Effort University

If LSU doesn't have a winning record overall and in the SEC, this season is a failure.

Right now, LSU's record isn't much different than it was at this point last year. Yet, there is so much hype about Wade.

Sorry Johhny Jones got fired. Can't blame Wade for having to inherit Jones' players with awful habits from lazy coaching.

After watching Wade's first game, my father in law bought 8 season tickets. He was so excited.

They hustle and score a lot of points, but they play poor defense. They will be competitive like they were against Marquette and Stephen F. Austin, but without major improvements on defense, they won't be able to pull out too many close victories in conference. The SEC is actually really really good this year top to bottom. Tennessee, Alabama, Kentucky, Florida, A&M, Arkansas, Mizzou, etc all have really good teams that will be tough to beat.
