Ranking football coaches
quote:

51. Ed Orgeron, LSU LSU’s decision to replace Les Miles with Ed Orgeron on a full-time basis prior to the 2017 season was met with plenty of skepticism. However, two years into Orgeron’s tenure in Baton Rouge, it’s clear he’s a different coach than the one that went 10-25 at Ole Miss from 2005-07. LSU went 9-4 and finished No. 18 overall in 2017 but offseason question marks meant low expectations for this team going into ’18. The Tigers exceeded most preseason predictions last fall, finishing 10-3 and 5-3 within the SEC. Orgeron’s team finished No. 6 nationally in the final Associated Press poll and beat UCF in the Fiesta Bowl. Of LSU’s three losses last fall, two came by eight points or less. In addition to his interim stint at USC in 2013 (6-2 overall), Orgeron is 41-36 overall as a head coach. Catching Alabama in the SEC West is still Orgeron’s top priority, and the hire of former Saints assistant Joe Brady to tweak the offense should help this team improve on that side of the ball.

Ed O starts to lose or he and his staff can't install the spread "c.o.r.r.e.c.t.l.y." he'll be in boiling steam faster than 40 pounds of crawfish and just as uncomfortable.

You don’t finish #6 in the nation if your coach is #51.

I am sure his low ranking includes his time at Ole Miss.

Athlon is bad with everything

Harbaugh is way too high. Been extremely disappointing at Michigan IMO

Athlon’s ranking of 130 college football head coaches

51. Ed Orgeron

If I'm not mistaken, this is kind of like preseason polls, right? We hate them if we're ranked too low and talk about how unimportant they are...but will gladly tout them if we agree with their ranking?

This should be fun...thread about his ranking in Sporting News at 15th is now over 100 pages.

You do if you are top 5 in talent with the best DC in the country.

51 is a little high, but he honestly ranks somewhere in the mid to upper 30's.

Are recruiting and hiring a good staff not a part of being a good coach?

Best DC in country? This myth needs to die. There is no evidence or rankings supporting this. Actually Aranda has never had a team ranked as high as what chavis and Pellini defenses were ranked.

Anyone that pops in here agreeing with that ranking is an absolute idiot.

I get the skepticism when he was hired. But there are only 5-8 coaches out there doing as good or better job as him right now. That’s a fact.

Who gets credit for the hires? Who gets credit for the talent evaluation and recruiting? Who gets credit for changing the QB culture at LSU? Which was an enormous undertaking? Who gets Credit for changing the entire infrastructure of the LSU football program? Who gets credit for taking way less money than he should have in order to prove himself? Way less money so that he could hire great coaches and analysts around him?

You idiots.

how many DC have proven to be elite at 2 different p5 powerhouses?
3 of his last defenses were top 10 in opponents yards per play and 2 of the last 4 top 5

3 of the last 4 years top 5 in opponents points per play
