But to be fair he’s going to college when you basically aren’t allowed to do any of the college things that help you take your mind off all the changes.
This 100%. It's not a sign of weakness as much as no one else in modern times has ever had to deal with this. These kids are dealing with a unique situation. I have two girls in college and both are complaining about how disappointing it is to not have normal interaction and limited organized activities. One it at home who is completely missing the college experience and the other is away but all of her classes are remote.

I could believe homesickness. An 18 year old freshman sees college life differently than a 22/23 year old senior. A lot of adjustments. With no students around to make things feel normal, I could see it being a problem.
When you grow up in Baton Rouge. Everything about BR is familiar. When I was 17 years old, I moved from BR to Houston. Quite the social change for the 1980’s. I had two pairs of aunt and uncles in Houston and I still felt alone on campus. By the time I was 23 years old, I was fricking tired of my RA’s bullshite and I basically ran the dorms.

He has the talent to excel at the next level. What will he do if he is drafted by San Francisco or Seattle? And if he is evaluated by NFL to not be able to adjust to that it could cause him to drop in the draft or not be drafted at all.

Yeah...no NFL team is going to knock a kid who likes home.
He could legit use his signing bonus to move his whole family out with him if he wants. Or he could just live in Marietta half the week and be in his teams city the other half.
Money solves all kinds of logistical problems.

That's plays a whole lot more into things than I feel like y'all are giving it credit.

Well, they’ll downplay it so they can come here and play billy badass and shite all over a kid who this team needs.
We have some weird-arse fans.

This year isn’t the year for freshman to enjoy the college experience. Hell they run out on the field with what? 20000 fans? In those huge stadiums that’s got to be a let down.

The kid is not fricking homesick. He isn't hurting.
The kid was fed promises that are not being delivered and he is pissed.
Its that simple.
So, take another Programs "promises" as factual and they don't even USE the TE they have now?

Usually by now a kid has returned home 3 or 4 times. I know many kids from my college days that returned home twice a month for laundry and a home cooked meal.
And please, Gilbert is with the football team - a large group of guys where he instantly can fit in.
Most regular college students, this year, don't have that at all. But athletes - come on.
And I'm sorry - a little homesickness is ok, but nut up, Arik.

These damn kids have all the technology available to them to communicate with each other and back home. Grow the frick up.

I was homesick my first few weeks at LSU. Grew up in north Louisiana and it was my first time away from home.
Most players get to go back and see their high school buddies on their bye week. Everyone at the high school probably treats these players like a king. This year these guys have had none of that. I had a college sophomore at my dental office last week telling me how miserable her semester is sitting in front of a computer all day - no live classes. The college experience is gone right now. I’m not just talking about partying, but hanging out in groups having fun.
Hopefully Arik’s mom will help him get through this semester and he will be back.

You are literally diagnosing an 18 yr old college kid with mental illness from behind a keyboard. It takes a truly moronic piece of shite do that.

Damn these softies can’t handle being away from mommy while playing college football? shite I was homesick while stationed in Vietnam, and guess what, there wasn’t a damn thing I could do about it.

I mean, I really don’t think y’all are grasping what college is like this year. And that’s understandable, how could you? But it is DECEMBER 18th, and many of these kids have not returned home once, much less someone that just left his home for the first time ever 100’s of miles away. Usually by now a kid has returned home 3 or 4 times. I know many kids from my college days that returned home twice a month for laundry and a home cooked meal.
I’m not saying I’m not disappointed football wise, but man, this is a kid.
I think many forget that just because these are giant people they can't get homesick. Same thing happened with Bru McCoy not long after he decided to go to Texas.
LSU is a shite show now, everybody feels like shite (he's specifically dealing with injuries), and as a freshman, and first time living alone the thing a lot of people want is what they know, and what they know is home. Since they are student athletes, they haven't been able to really leave for him if I'm remembering right.

Most guys will be a little homesick when they move out, but that's alleviated by a lot of the fun and independence you get in return. Going out, hanging around with friends, generally socializing on and around campus, etc. And like you said, there's normally been a couple trips back home by now for the holidays, etc.
This year- aren't they pretty much locked down and isolated? You CAN'T go anywhere (by law), or otherwise spend time with people, beyond practice. And right now practice on an imploding team might not be very comforting.
