Some of the biggest fans I know never went to college. I've never taken a class at Kansas, but I consider myself a big fan.

My wife is the only LSU grad in the family but we are all Tiger fans through and through. My daughter starts at Starkville in a week and she swears she will not stop wearing her LSU Tshirts and will return any Miss St shirts she is given. (I told her it was ok to be a Bulldog too and to have school spirit. Just don't get carried away). I grew up in BR , left for school and returned to BR for work and took some night classes at LSU. The classes did not make me a bigger fan!!

It's no a pre-req to be a fan, but there is a different kind of connection though being an alum that non-alum will never have.

I agree with Cornholio there are many people who went to LSU who feel that if you didn't attend the University or are out of state that you don't deserve to be a "True Fan." I made the decision to join the military and it has been my career for the past 12 years so I never attended LSU as a student.

You, sir, move to the head of the line of REAL LSU fans.

And thank you for your service.

Agreed, there is definitely a different kind of attachment if you actually spent 4+ years of your life living on or arond campus. I have both a bachelor's degree and master's degree from LSU, and those were six of the best years of my life.

Having said that, I don't feel that I'm a "bigger" LSU fan than my friends that didn't attend LSU. The way I look at it, we are all just Tiger fans!

My parents are LSU alumni

I was born in BR, and grew up in Houston, and an SFA alumni..

I was going to transfer to LSU my Junior year, but I had made too many friends at SFA..so I stayed and enjoyed my college years there..

People ask me all the time, "so you went to LSU?"..I always have to explain, slightly embarrassed, no I didn't... I just love LSU to the core of my body... mainly because my ole man was such a die hard, I was a tiger fan early on in my childhood ...My son is on the same track

I know. I have to explain the same thing. People don't get it. But, my Dad was a HUGE LSU fan and I grew up bleeding purple and gold. My boys are becoming LSU fans too, even though we live in enemy territory in Alabama.

I took a scholarship up here in Arkansas, but my father worked his entire career for LSU (Extension Agent) and got his grad degree from LSU. I worked for LSU each summer during college and that is where my brother and his wife graduated.

I go to every game I can, have plenty of purple & gold clothes and hats in the closet and a great picture of Mike V framed and in my living room.

One thing about the people that never attended LSU, they are spared from seeing the warts it has.

Would you care to elaborate? On the other hand, I guess one could argue you also miss out on some of the great experiences that accompany being a student at LSU.

I am a current LSU grad student, and I do not think a "fan" needs to graduate from LSU to be considered as a true fan.

Having said that I consider myself to be connected to LSU at two levels ---

1) At a academic and professional level.
2) As a lover of LSU sports.

People who do not go to LSU can't really have the association that I am pointing to in point 1 above. But that should not/does not stop them from having a connection with LSU as pointed out in point 2. Also any one from LA should have some pride in the state's flagship school.

Very true, I wish our academic standards were as good as our athletics.

My main image of LSU is tailgating, Saturday night games, baseball games at the Box, The Varsity, Ivars, Murphy's, Happy Note and hash browns from Louie's. Pretty rosie picture!

You dig deeper than that and I'm sure you'll start hitting the warts. Happens anywhere you go.

As I mentioned, my dad worked his entire career for LSU and back in the 1970s and 1980s, it was rough. State was in bad shape and so was the University.

Tens, if not hundreds of thousands of students across the state attended LSU-S and LSU-A. I bet each and every one of them considers themselves LSU fans.

No worries, academics have improved and will continue to do so. I'm currently working on my MBA from LSU, and I'll be damn proud when I receive it next summer.

it doesnt matter if you go to LSU or not. If you bleed purple and gold and represent LSU well, we're happy to have you.

you can still be a fan of a college team even if you didn't go there.....just a lesser fan than someone that actually attended the university and is also a fan. I certainly look down on "fans" that didn't go to school at LSU.

If only LSU graduates and students went to games, we would average about 50,000 to 65,000 "fans" per game.

Next question, please....
