Saw we got rid of BP, but then read the guy that took over for him left also… Just wondering where we stand there. It would be unacceptable for BK to let that go on for another year

John Jancek got reassigned to coach DL when Jimmy Lindsey had to step away. Bob Diaco is more than qualified to coach special teams. We will be fine.

Bob Diaco

Boy I sure hope so. Looking at his coaching resume, he hasn’t coached special teams since 2008 at Virginia

That feeling is obviously because of AA...I think everyone is pretty excited about having an electric return man

He’s definitely electric, but I think we should temper expectations on just how big an impact he’ll actually have beyond actually being able to field kicks cleanly. I’m not sure he’s returning KOs anyway, but there are a lot more touchbacks and even fair catches these days with the new rules.

And the punting strategy bias changed from the days of just telling your punter to punt is as far as he can. Teams are much more focused on directional punting and hang time these days, so the opportunities to actually break one are way down. I’m sure AA will make a few big plays in the return game this year, but his electricity will likely be used more on offense when we try to get him the ball in space around the LOS and let him go to work.

Only one way to find out. Play a few games and evaluate.

Regardless of who is coaching it is essentially impossible to not be better, so we have that going for us

I don’t know how much better they will be, if any.

But I’m confident special teams won’t be worse than last year.

The “ we can’t be any worse” approach doesn’t seem like a championship mentality.
