Are other universities so closely entwined to their state's politics.

Is it not weird that our governor has control of the BOS? Is it not weird that the success of our flagship university can be determined by who is owed a political favor? I have experienced the negative effects of Louisiana politics my entire life but never has it been as confusing as who controls the basketball program of my university.

Yes. Absolutely. Alabama is just as bad. Texas regularly has bills in the legislature to force A & M and UT to play. Louisville and UK play annually for the same reason.

Public universities are publicly funded. The custodians of those public funds --- the politicians --- will have their say.

Let's just all take a quick second here and thank higher powers that Babineaux Blanco isn't around for all this. She'd use this as justification to make ULL the flagship.

Yes. After living in Austin for a few years I saw they have more cooks in the kitchen there than we do here. I think it all comes down to having a strong leader somewhere on the food chain. Could be a Nick Saban or it could be a Deloss Dodds, but someone has to rule with an iron fist.

I think the one thing you could say is here has a little more cronyism at play, but at any major state school where athletics is part of the culture it’s a problem.

Fair, but I am not speaking from a strictly athletics perspective. How does the flagship end up being run by a defense attorney? Maybe its the inattention the voter's in this state pay to education but I just do not understand how LSU can be run by people who's only motivation is personal advancement with no care to the institution they're representing.

It varies from state to state.

Alabama's used to be governor-appointed, now their self-appointed by the board.

South Carolina's are self-appointed

Arkansas's are governor-appointed.

Yes.

Don't you remember Tennessee's shitshow of a coaching search a year ago?

Or the Saban to Texas fiasco?
With their fertile recruiting grounds and abundance of cash, UT should be in the playoff every year. The only thing holding them back is political infighting.

Well in Bama's case their government actually wants them to win. Louisiana is the arse-backwards government trying to sink their own program.

the LA laws need a constitutional amendment

no political cronies appointed by a political crony should have any control over LSU sports which are self sufficient even though we are a public university.

disband BOS

TAF creates their own TAF BOS and makes all calls sports related

F the chancellor and current day BOS and governor

all big donors stop donating. let it crash and burn or go back to using public taxpayer money then maybe the dumbfricks running LSU will change their minds. no dumbasses in the public sector should have any say so over sports funded by the PRIVATE SECTOR.

i mean wtf do we have to do? switch to being a [private school to keep state political cronies out of the decision making process

They do. But what you need to counter their bullshite is a coach that the big money guys are behind 100%. The political people won’t touch a coach like that.
